Story about how Cynthia Cooper-Dyke terrorized and abused her players throughout her career, despite many players and parents complaints.
Non-spoiler alert: Pat Haden let this continue and is still a wuss.

I recall when Cooper’s USC team won the PAC-12 WBB Tournament after being a play-in team and having to win four games to do so. I recall her animated celebration after the game and how she gained the respect of many fans for her achievement. She left USC a couple of seasons later and seemed to quietly fall from view. Now we know why. It's hard to watch someone fall from grace. It’s equally hard to try to imagine how tortured souls try to cope with all their issues in the workplace, especially when it affects so many other young women in the process. This is just sad all around. I hope that she can find peace and that the young women she worked with do not carry their trauma into their lives.
This story is appearing in several magazines which are fully readable.

This is disgusting and it sounds as if a class-action suit is in order. It does seem as if there is a certain kind of coach that associates vulgarity, and the demeaning and bullying of players, with "toughness"" and "winning attitude." What is shocking is how these kinds of coaches can behave this way for years on end and get away with it. Imagine any other kind of teacher using that kind of language and behavior in a college classroom. Somehow the fact that sport is involved changes the standard of behavior.
One of the reasons I so admired Bill Walsh--not just his football acumen--but the way he treated his players like professionals.

Haha. I assume you never saw Bill in action vs. on TV. Bill's style was, indeed, highly professional...and savage at the same time. Bill was not at all above calling out, embarrassing, f-bombing, etc. etc. etc.
There's a time for every kind of pressure from coaches. Some coaches use certain kinds of pressure too much, leading to the vile stories in this thread. Today's players also are trained to look for the insult in every interaction, so there's that.

Oh no! You have murdered yet one more of my idols ;)
Holding people accountable, in the language they best understand, is one thing. Then there is, as you suggest, gratuitous bullying, which is what I think Coop is accused of.
