And here we thought Tara was just on vacation in Greece.
Thanks for the news.

RE: New WBB signee - Maple Leaf - 05-24-2022

Is this commit for 2023 or 2024?

2022. She's signing paperwork.

6'4" wingspan.  Definitely an all-around player.  Looks very active on defense.  Kind of a low release point on threes which may or may not work against defenders at this level.

The subtitles are Greek to me.

My first thought is that she has a lot of Lexie Hull in her, with her drives to the hoop and defensive intensity.  One can only hope.

And now Elena will have someone on the team to speak Greek with -- maybe help both of them adjust

RE: New WBB signee - 81alum - 05-24-2022

Highlight reels are...highlights...and so it is hard to tell how consistent a player will be.  But Papadaki does look like a good all-around player, with some height and length for a guard.  I like the hustle plays on the reel.  Her jumpshot is slow but she has a great floater.  Can score from all three levels.

Ten names are currently showing on the official roster, and we know Betts Nivar and Lepolo will take three slots.  Add Papadaki and there still is one more scholarship available, isn't there?

RE: New WBB signee - BobK - 05-24-2022

Roster for next season now at 14. Hope it stays there leaving future room for a Sr taking a 2023-24 covid year

RE: New WBB signee - chimera - 05-24-2022

Cool.  Nice addition to the roster and welcome to her and family.

I thought the scholarship limit was 15 for womens basketball.

Yes 15. But allowing for more 2023 recruiting and still leave an opening like having Jump back for a 5 th year

Very nice get. Highlights, yes, but nothing looked fluky. She has quick and soft hands (her blocks were straight up, not slaps, and she often came away with the ball). And she seems to have good body control, which helps offset the only moderate quickness. Her release outside is a bit low, but her ability to drive will hopefully buy her enough space. And her handle and vision may be good enough that she can help with the PG by committee we seem headed towards.
It seems we are "replacing" the Hull twins with the Greek "twins". Those are some big shoes to fill but hopefully it's no longer a gaping hole.

RE: New WBB signee - TheWildJacko - 05-27-2022

Cool! My first impression is that she looks very very fast with exceptional acceleration. Any time she got the ball she seemed to turn on another gear and blow past her defender(s). It looks like she has good body control, a variety of different shots from all ranges, and some nice moves to the basket. Her shot release seems very quick and effortless, except, strangely, on her 3-pt. shot. She seemed to take at least a second to line up her shot nearly every time she caught the ball behind the arc. I think there was maybe one time where she caught it outside and shot it immediately.

Defense and court vision looks strong, both with steals and blocks. I might be remembering wrong but I don’t believe there was a section featuring her assists, which seemed odd since the video showcased just about everything else (even rebounds!) except free throws. Very exciting!

With the seniors being Belibi, Prechtel, Jones, and Jump, who do you think might benefit by a fifth year?  I presume Jones will go pro, meaning it would have to be one of the other three.  I know much could depend on how well those three do next year--one of them might have such an outstanding season to make her also a pro prospect.  But I could make a case for any of the three.  Jump because we may continue to be short on three point shooting.  Belibi because she has shown remarkable and steady improvement and given that she started basketball late, she might have the most to gain by a 5th year.  Prechtel if she can get her shooting touch back since she is such a matchup problem for opposing defenses when she is hitting from three.

Jump please.  The biggest question mark for this team going forward is 3 point shooting.  Jones will go to the WNBA.  Belibi is very good but what she does can be done by Brink, Iriafen and Betts.  And Prechtel is basically another 3 point shooter but Jump is better.
