Looks like she is stepping back from professional golf after the US Women’s open. This quote stood out.
Quote: “I’m extremely proud to have achieved the two biggest dreams that I’ve had — one being graduating from Stanford, and the other winning the U.S. Open.”

I didn't know that she was still active professionally.

She had chronic wrist injuries and had her first child in 2020. She had intended to step away at that time, so her playing has been limited.
Supposedly, she will play in the 2023 U. S. Women's Open at Pebble Beach, then will formally retire.
Aside: I didn't know that her husband was the director of player personnel for the Warriors and that her father in law is Jerry West.
(20) LaWanda on Twitter: "Golfer Michelle Wie got married and didn’t forget the furry members of the family. ?? She married Jonnie West, an executive for NBA ?team the Golden State Warriors and son of NBA ? legend Jerry West. Congratulations to them! ?❤️? https://t.co/eL2kBDtAiy" / Twitter

What does formally retiring from golf mean?
Do you have to sign up for retirement benefits, or does it just involve sending a statement to the media that you don't intend to play anymore?

I am guessing no such thing as formal retirement papers. Annika Sorenstam is playing at the US Womens Open this year, for the first time since 2008.

She qualified by winning the US Senior Open. Co hosting with Stenson in a DP event later in the year.

Means you're out for good. No more playing in the occasional U.S. Open. Of course, every time she gets out, they try to pull her back in...
