UConn strikes first; an Eddie Park error leads to a man on second, who goes onto score.

Williams’ arm is dead. Has been for a few weeks now. Time to shut him down until rookie ball. Sucks for the team but it is what it is. It’s a long season and Williams pitched his butt off all year. Need the rest of the team to pick him up.

Changing pitchers hasn’t helped.
Maybe Flemming is the jinx

Yeah, maybe I should close this thread and we can go back to the other.
Sheesh, 9-0

Bowser gets two back in a hurry.

Eddy Park picked up right where he left off with a double.

And Jones gets another two back, so now a more manageable 9-4.

Wow. Almost a repeat of last Monday, including the back to back homers from Bowser and Troy, and Park getting on base. But we can't quite do it tonight. Stanford loses, 13-12.
Hope Williams is ok. That's back-to-back games in which he was roughed up.

What was the Stanford 3rd base coach thinking? Or did two runners go through stop signs? Two more runs would have been really big.

JJJ - 06-12-2022
Quote:No. 2 Stanford (45-16) connected for eight home runs, including four in the bottom of the ninth, but came up one run short in a 13-12 loss to Connecticut (50-14) on Saturday night in the opening game of a best-of-three super regional being played at Sunken Diamond.
The eight home runs are the most for the Cardinal in a game since hitting eight vs. Washington State on May 2, 2004.

Excellent question :( Runners just aren't going to outrun ~60mph throws from the outfield.

I also posted this in the other baseball thread.
I realize it’s a long shot and many of you are dealing with the same issues, but if anyone has extra tix to game 2, please let me know. StubHub has been glitchy and up/downloads ineffective. Tickets we thought we had were canceled/refunded, and they have bigger issues dealing with MLB. Any assist will be appreciated.

Per the ESPN replay during the game, the 3rd base coach was signaling Crampton to continue on to third base. The ESPN analysist was critical of this call by the 3rd base coach, indicating the outfielder had the ball in his hand before Crampton had even reached 2nd base.

I have wondered about this as well. Also, in one of the Texas State games, Eddie Park (I think) was out at the plate. None of the three plays were close. Is this a coach misjudging the situation, players not paying attention, poor scouting, or something else? Can we fix it, starting today?
Geaux Cardinal!
On the UConn Boneyard site, pages 17 through 19 show their fan reaction to Stanford's ninth:

For those of you not in the area, yesterday weather was
7PM: 80º 55%, 1.6mph/6.8mph NW
10PM: 70º 75%, 0.6mph/3mph at 10PM WNW
For today's game, the area remains overcast (marine layer) at this time, with these predictions
4PM: 71º 68%, 12mph NW cloudy
7PM: 67º 55% 12mph WNW partly cloudy
So, cooler today with maybe a bit more breeze.
A NW wind would help the ball carry down the left field line.

Thanks MT and Maple. I was at the game last night and our third base coach really blew it if he sent him. "Never make the first or last out at 3rd base!"
I've been going to Sunken Diamond since the early 80's and I have never seen balls fly out of the yard like that! There were some towering shots bouncing off the lights. I missed Park's error in the first, but he made a great grab to pull back a home run. Time to get the Win today!

Stanford 2, Uconn 1, B1. Let's get'em out and hold them to 1 run.

Hope Stanford has enough pitchers who are dialed in tonight.
In the 4 series already decided today, the numbers 1, 4, 10, 11 seeds were ousted.
The #5 seed is the only seeded team set for the CWS with 3 more series in progress.
One good thing is they are running up Peterson’s pitch count. He’s at 52 with still only 1 out in the 2nd inning.

Montgomery!!!
Three run homer to push us up to 7-1.

And that’s it for Peterson, who gives up 7 runs and 7 hits in 1.1 innings.
