Owen Marecic, M.D. - TrumpCard - 08-16-2022
I don’t recall mention recently, but Marecic is now an orthopedic surgery resident at Stanford. Not to many former NFL players can do that. I don’t know how much time or inclination he has to recruit for Stanford, but he could be an interesting option in Shaw’s arsenal to recruit certain types of players.
Edit: in response to comments, I added M.D. to the subject line to save the moment of panic where people thought he died!

Signed in the first class a few weeks after Harbaugh arrived. In some sense kind of a Harris guy!
Really neat news on Marecic. Whenever I see a thread like this I fear it's going to be an Ekom Udofia/Zach Hoffpauir kind of tragedy, but that makes it all the sweeter when it's really uplifting news like this. Marecic is one of the all-time Stanford greats.

I had the exact same reaction as you did: that something bad happened to a player I really liked. Glad it was very good news.
Former athletes who go into medicine disproportionately go into orthopaedics to the point where it is a bit of a trope.

John Frank was the starting tight end on two of the 49ers Super Bowl winners in the 1980s (second rounder out of Ohio State), but quit football after five seasons to be an MD.

Waived in April 2021, never made it into a game. Hope he got a chance to go med school in the end.

Love certainly not on an NFL roster. He never played in the NFL. I will be tickled if he makes the doctor dreams come true. I was always a bit confused by that narrative as there wasn't much evidence Love was a good student at Stanford but it would be neat if his sad football saga post-Stanford ended in a great post-football chapter.

Love’s LinkedIn profile doesn’t give any indication that he’s in medical school, but it’s pretty sparse.

I went on a couple dates with a lovely lady working with the football program at the time. She confirmed your suspicion.
