Some observations after a post-loss breakfast -

- It was effectively Andrew Luck day, but you'd have no idea walking around Stanford Stadium. No special graphics, no tshirts, not even Luck jerseys in the in-stadium store (did have the black CMcC ones, tho?). Stanford Athletics promotions department whiffed hard. Imagine what, well, U$C would do for a player of his stature.
- Speaking of, had U$C AD Mike Bohn pass me briefly pre-game. Wished me/us "Good luck." Wish I had the presence of mind to ask whether he'll miss this when he's flying in a plane made of money to Iowa road games in November.
- I'd say it was about a 75-25 split of USC to Card fans. Recent years I'd put closer to 65-35. Not unexpected, just noting.
- Man, seeing Andrew Luck back in the stadium brought back more feelings than I was prepared for. Miss him and his presence tremendously. He and the fam took off at halftime (with a newborn, completely understandable), Andrew clutching his baby girl. We don't deserve him, but I hope he sticks around Palo Alto after getting his Masters.
- A raucous home atmosphere has never been part of the recruiting pitch, but wonder what our '23 and '24 recruits in the house thought seeing a stadium mostly full of road fans (and a bad loss, of course).
- USC's receiver corps may be the best in the nation. If the Trojans had a real D, they could give Bama and Georgia a fight. Giving up ~5yds/carry to us is like giving up 30 to those two.
- The initial TD the refs took from us deflated the team. The turnovers did the rest of the work.
- Yes, we revamped the D to a 4-3. Yes, we're finally trying out some new offensive concepts (hallelujah). But I think the staff has lost spirit, and you see it in the kids. No one seemed particularly upset to be down bad to an opponent we had the pieces to be in a shootout with. Shaw is a calm, cool, collected coach, but you need other guys on staff bringing the heat and firing up the players to go kick some ass. Intellectual Brutality, anyone?
- Just perusing Twitter afterward, anyone find it strange our former players rarely Tweet about the games? Makes me wonder what kind of program alumni relations Muir and the assistant ADs are running (or failing to run). Those guys - the Rose Bowl-era guys - are some of our biggest assets in building up the program.

Nice post. Hopefully there will be more Stanford fans in the stands someday soon.

The sad fact is we are now forever at a disadvantage. The transfer rules allows any school who is willing to bury their acceptance standards to get a bigtime transfer for a year or two leaves us in the dust as I don't think it will ever happen at Stanford and should not. The field was already something other than level, now it is really tilted.
This doesn't help increase butts in the seats.

As so many of you write Stanford won’t change. So what to do. You are always going to get a few really good players who can pass Admissions but because of the new order (NIL, transfers) you will never again stockpile the kind of roster you had 2010-2015. With the LA schools leaving and the opportunity to schedule mediocre FBS schools to pad W/L Stanford has the chance to get to six wins now and then. But get used to having 12-15,000 people in the stands sitting on their hands.
All in all I think your administration doesn’t give a shit.

No doubt about your last sentence.

Actually, they do. They hate sports.

I’m old enough to remember when the LA schools were the mediocre FBS schools we used to pad our stats.
And for the OP, I think Twitter is the wrong place to look for posts from college aged kids. My guess is that if they are posting, it’s on Instagram or TickTock.

No doubt re: your average college kid and where they post - you're correct there. But CFB media and recruiting play out on Twitter primarily - that's the sphere we can try and influence with our former players, who are already there and active. Think Sherm, Baldwin, Ertz, Harrison, Hoagie, Christian, etc. There needs to be a dedicated engagement strategy to show potential recruits, their families, and CFB media that you can come to Stanford and be big in the league, too.

Sheesh BC. There are no C's in TikTok. Even an old fart like me knows that. . . .

Yeah, but my kid in the demographic (high school daughter) has zero interest in social media.

She ought to get a medal BC.
I just watched Casablanca for about the fortieth time. Everybody in Rick’s was having a great time except for Peter Lorre. Nobody was watching a screen.
