Per Ian Rappaport:
-- The #49ers get star RB Christian McCaffrey.
-- The #Panthers get a 2nd round pick in 2023, a third-rounder in 2023, and a fourth-round pick in 2023. Plus, a fifth-rounder in 2024.
That's a lot of draft capital. . . .

If he can stay healthy, it's a great deal.

A big IF. I don’t like the deal but I understand the thinking behind it - the 49ers are pushing all their chips to the middle of the table betting they can win it all at some point within this particular window of opportunity.

I think he has a much better chance of staying healthy when he is not the only offensive threat on the field. He also doesn't have to play absolutely every down. The niners are not the panthers.

Very true. Just ask Elijah Mitchell and Trey Lance. . . .

Football is a rough game. Every team has injuries, no matter how good they may be. However, if you want to make the argument that being the only offensive threat on the field is conducive to an athlete's physical health, I would gladly have that discussion. For some reason I think that is obviously not the case, but if you want to defend that proposition, I would like to "hear" it.

I gather from ESPN that the 49ers have that draft capital because of draft choices they’ve been given because of Saleh and other coaches being hired by other teams.

Except, his injuries were almost exclusively non-contact. He no longer has to play on turf. That should make a difference.
Also, he won’t be on field for 95% of offensive snaps.
Niners time is now. He’s a big weapon and one that fits perfectly into what Niners do. I mean, JG’s best work is over middle short. Line CMac in slot, run those option routes vs linebackers. Plus, it means Deebo will not be as heavily keyed on and won’t play RB much if at all. So, it lessens his risk of injury.
It’s a great move. One that tells the team we are all f-ing in.

Different proposition. He started having injury problems after being the field more than any non-quarterback skill position player in the NFL. And he had the ball in his hands a ton. That will not be the case of the 49ers. Which should make a difference. It’s just math. Less plays less risk. And most of his injuries were noncontact variety. With the exception of the shoulder
I learned about this while in line for flight from Munich to SF. Couple guys behind me decked out head to toe in Niners gear. Both Germans. Going to the game and just staying weekend. Now THAT is dedication.

Hey Lex, no credit for the first guy on the board to fantasize this and no credit to Mick for suggesting the trade?
AKA, can't wear #5 and #22. Perhaps #40, his dad's? No, 40 taken by a rook on the practice squad.

#27 as another option? His original Stanford number. I think some rookie is wearing it.

He’s a good fit for the Niner offense, and he should thrive if he can stay healthy. He’ll be a good complement to Garopolo, who won’t be called on to try to win things with his arm, and going forward, he should ease the pressure of Lance who should be able to grow into the role next year.
All predicated on McCaffrey staying healthy, of course.
