Men's soccer -- Instant Classic! -

If I could refer readers to the video of tonight's Stanford-SDSU game without spoiling the outcome I would, but I don't think I could elicit interest without providing a good reason to watch. Stanford and SDSU had a very physical game fostered in part by the fact that SDSU's home field is uncommonly narrow and for tonight's game, soggy for some reason. The wet field elicited more aggressive tackling and more sluggish play; hence more contact. Stanford clearly had the better of the chances, and as is so often the case in soccer, the frustration at missed chances was doing bad things to my cardiovascular functioning.
After 76 minutes it was 1-1, after each team scored pretty first-half goals. And then the real action began. SDSU scored directly on a perfect corner kick. Ah, but Stanford's goalie, Matt Frank, had been impeded, and the goal was waved off. Two minutes later, SDSU was awarded a PK (a legit foul). At that point I couldn't bear to watch, and I turned off the game. Figured I'd read about the valiant effort tomorrow.
[Indeed, as I learned later, the SDSU player converted the PK. 2-1 with 14' to go.]
Twenty minutes later, while putzing on Twitter -- I see that Stanford freakin' won! Two goals in the last seven minutes, the last with a minute remaining. Thank goodness the players did not quit the way this fan did.
Fortunately, the SDSD live streaming saves the video, and I was able to watch the last 14', this time with a normal blood pressure. Although even knowing the outcome, it was mildly anxiety-provoking to watch the opposing goalie take his time with goal kicks. I'm sure the highlights will be posted on Gostanford.com, but for those that are interested in the flow of the play, it's found at the following:
https://goaztecs.com/watch/
From there, click "on demand" and find the Stanford game. The last 14' starts at 1:50 on the recording.
(I don't believe it's possible -- or at least I don't know how -- to post the video here.)

Surprised that foul that led to the Stanford equalizer wasn’t red carded. Maybe the contact was too incidental, but it was a foul from behind on a player who had an unimpeded path to the goal. Glad we converted, because it would have been frustrating had we not.
Thanks for the highlights.
