Question: What is the threshold of action the university must take to demonstrate it will not tolerate bad football?
Simply firing the current Head Coach is not enough to make that demonstration, IMO.
Personally, I don't tolerate it. I demonstrate this by not participating in posts talking about the team, not watching or listening to games, and not bothering to learn who the players are. I don't really follow Stanford any more than any other college football team.

Feel free to vent as much as you want. That’s what a sports board is good for. But, to quote Baz Lehrman, know that posting on this board is about as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing Bubble gum.

It sure as hell wouldn't hurt! For chrissakes, after a shellacking like today's, after years of coaching decline and inaction, at a school that takes athletics as seriously as Stanford wants the world to believe, Shaw would be cashiered tomorrow. He wouldn't coaching another game here let alone destroy another season. The longer he hangs around, the more putrid the stench at Arrillaga. Still, do not for a second think that certain influencers ignore the fan media.

Personally I would have tolerance for it if I thought there were better days ahead. There won't be any of that without a complete housecleaning. That being said, I'm done spending any further time and energy on this failure of a head coach and the failure of a program he has "built." Peace out

On the list of MTL’s priorities, I’d say this is pretty far down.
If Muir went to MTL and said I need $20 million to fire Shaw and $40 million to hire a new coach, Muir would be laughed out of his office.

For a majority of the Stanford community, football is just another part of sportsball but also something to worry about because of CTE.
I think if there was a vote football would squeak by, but if the option was to quit playing football but throw some more “support” to basketball and other sports, well…
The best solutions-oriented response I have to this mess is to educate everyone at Stanford on the financial importance of a healthy football program when it comes to providing enough support overall to Stanford athletes (yes, this is true even at $tanford). I believe that there is still enough general support for athletics among the Stanford population for this sort of appeal to be at least somewhat effective. If not…
These are uncertain times and no one should feel especially confident that football won’t fall even lower on the priority list, though Stanford is not interested in being a leader as far as completely disinvesting in the sport (for obvious financial reasons, if nothing else), imo.

And yet, here you are. Newsflash, whether you participate in threads or not, or loudly proclaim that you won’t, the administration doesn’t care. Pound the proverbial message table that is this board of it makes you feel better. That’s what message boards are for. They are not, however, to try to affect change. Maybe Shaw will be fired, maybe he won’t (I think the threshold for the university to fire him will be pretty high, but I could be wrong). Be that as it may, just know that ranting and raving on here doesn’t make it any more or less likely.

It seems students are pretty unhappy with the universities crack down on student activities on campus. So I would put addressing that issue as a higher priority on my list. The fact that students are very vocally unhappy with the administration does not give me faith that they know what they are doing running the university.
As far as I can see the priority are rankings, prestige, over the feelings of the students and alumni.

The alumni, at least back in history, had to be placated enough that many of them would give donations to the University. Today the University identifies the big donors and doesn't much care what the rest of the alumni thinks. Students opinions and feelings were only reluctantly considered and only if absolutely necessary for some reason, like say riots.
As far as I can see the priority are rankings, prestige, over the feelings of the students and alumni.
