MBB: Cal Poly game thread -
burger - 11-18-2022
Looks like we're already at the point in the season where no one makes a game thread until 5 minutes before tipoff.
Spencer Jones starting finally. Silva over O'Connell as well. Michael Jones benched after a couple of lackluster games.
Hey, it could be worse. Cal, 0-4 now, just lost to previously 0-3 Southern (from the SWAC) at Haas.

26-3 at the under 12 TO. We scored the first 19 points of the game. Cal Poly has a zillion turnovers, and we're shooting well.
Where was this team the last two games?

It's 29-3 and we are not the team with 3

They were playing slightly better competition than Cal Poly….

They didn’t play that poorly vs SDSU. They shot poorly. There’s a difference.

Who are these guys? And what have they done with our team?

Oh, they'll be back soon, next week or even second half of this one. I take as much from this one as I did from the football team's win against Colgate.

Last time I checked, shooting is a big part of playing. On top of that they had 17 turnovers with 10 assists, were <70% on free throws, and SDSU shot 51% FG.
I repeat my previous statement.

Quality of opponent makes a big difference

Yeah, and Washington just lost to Cal Baptist. So maybe there's a couple of conference wins for us this year.

Shooting is, of course, part of “playing”. Having said that, it’s also one of the least controllable things especially from the coaches perspective.
San Diego State had significantly more talent – especially related to quickness. Stanford played hard, they outrebound them, and they essentially stayed in a game when they shot 37% from the field, missing a lot of good looks.
I don’t know if it was a bad night or if it’s simply a bad shooting team. If it’s the latter, it’ll be a long year. They simply don’t have enough athleticism to make up for that.

We were favored by 15.5 in that game.
We won by 37.
Onward.
