Other Games this Long Weekend -
Austroturf - 11-25-2022
Cal up on UCLA 14-10 with 4 and change left in the first half. UCLA has dominated TOP and total offense, but could not capitalize on their opportunities. Cal, by contrast, has made their living off of two big pass plays on offense. The stats say UCLA should be ahead, but a missed FG and a near TD torpedoed by a false start have left them with 10 points instead of 17. This is how Chip and his boys lose games. Explosive, dynamic, but prone to mistakes.
Arizona is up 30-28 vs. ASU at the end of 3 quarters.
Iowa is down 17-0 vs. Nebraska. A win would give them a shot at the Big Ten championship. A loss would give Purdue the inside track.
Cal now up 21-10. Again a long pass play. I assume UCLA will come back in the second half, but maybe the Bruins are a bit deflated after the loss to USC. Or maybe Cal is energized after their Big Game victory last Saturday.
Quick response from UCLA. 21-17 Cal with less than 20 seconds left in H1.

There's a barn burner going on in Chappel Hill. Going to OT.

Weenies 28 UCLA 27 in the 4th. How bad does UCLA need to be playing for this to be the score?

Meanwhile, Arizona won the duel in the desert, while offensively-challenged Iowa has a minute to drive the distance from their own 20 to avert a major upset vs. Nebraska.
Cal up 28-27 with 11 minutes remaining in the game.

Iowa goes down 24-17 and has to hope that Purdue and Illinois lose tomorrow for a chance to face the winner of OSU and Michigan in the Big-10 title game.

I have been watching this entire game. UCLA has committed a bunch of errors that have allowed Cal to stay in the game. DTR, at his best, is phenomenal. But he and the team have not been at their best at all times. And Cal has shown some decent defense at crucial moments. Add to that a number of very nice (lucky?) tosses by Plummer, and you have this 28-27 score midway through the 4th quarter.
Bruins go up 35-28 midway through the 4th quarter. Can UCLA hold on to this lead? No clue.

NC State prevails 30-27 on missed FG by the Tar Heels.

Bruins close it out 35-28. Bears fall to 4-7, Bruins go to 9-3.

True. The Big 10 West is not even in the same universe as the Big 10 East (at least this year).

The Big 10 West is 0-8 in Big 10 Championship games....

OSU-Michigan. If it’s a close game, does the loser make CFS. My guess - if Michigan loses, no. They get hurt by a very weak schedule. Particularly their non conference games. OSU, probably in with a close loss. Win over ND helps. Rooting for Michigan. Not a JH fan. But can’t stand OSU.
Hoping ND thrashes SC. Not likely. But one can hope.
GTech TD first drive. Hope for Jacktree.

It depends on a bunch of other stuff. Does USC beat Notre Dame? Does TCU stay unbeaten. Does Alabama beat Georgia in the SEC championship?
I think the loser of tOSU and Michigan can go to the playoffs, but they probably need help. Most likely no.

OSU first drive - sh-t through a goose. Looked easy. Haven’t seen Stroud much. Supposedly first pick in upcoming draft. First drive he hit three throws into tight windows, including throwing Harrison open on a beautiful back shoulder throw.

7-3 Buckeyes after 9 minutes. I am pulling for the Wolverines because I can't stand OSU and I am a JH fan!
Michigan stalled after an intentional grounding penalty. The Wolverine D needs to stiffen in a big way, otherwise this game could be over by halftime. Jake Moody hit the FG, as expected.

Yes, lots of moving parts.
Georgia faces LSU in the SEC championship game. If LSU wins, then I suspect both of these SEC teams are in, which cuts the number of open slots to 2. If Georgia wins, LSU is out. Then the rest depends on how TCU and USC perform in their final two games and how close this one is.

So weird not to see Alabama in an SEC title game, let alone the playoff discussion. Thanks for the correction.

All I care about is SC NOT getting in.

Things are not looking great for Michigan. Without Corum at full strength, the running threat is muted, forcing McCarthy to throw, and the Buckeyes are putting serious pressure on him in the pocket. A lot will be riding on how well the Michigan D can keep the score low. UM's only shot is to keep the score under 30 and hope for a few big plays on defense. If Ohio State turns this into a track meet, Michigan will not be able to keep pace.
Michigan up 17-13 late in the 1st half. UM did what I thought they couldn't do with two very long pass plays to take the lead. So far, the Wolverine D has kept OSU's offense in check (1 TD, 2 FGs).
