Two overarching impressions: (a) loose marking by US back line and (b) US inability to finish good scoring chances. Either is bad; the two combined are fatal. Otherwise, the US played the Dutch on pretty even terms.

Dutch goalscorers all completely unmarked. They were wiiiiide open, especially Dumfries on the third. Terrible defending.

but it's a young team, with luck will do better on home soil next time.

This is not apropos the American team, but definitely the World Cup. Legend Pele has been moved to palliative care after no longer responding to chemotherapy for colon cancer.

Sad to read. I got to see him play when he was on the New York Cosmos. Scored two goals in about 30 mins. Far and away the best player on the field, even though he was clearly past his prime.
