Lauren Fleshman new book - Spiny_Norman - 01-11-2023

Lauren Fleshman was a distance runner and 5 time NCAA champion at Stanford about 20 years ago. Since then she has been a strong advocate for athlete rights and equity in sports. She has just published a memoir called Good for a Girl: A Woman Running in a Man's World. It's a critique of how the sports world treats female athletes.

Terry Gross interviewed Lauren yesterday on NPR's show Fresh Air. You can listen to the interview or read the transcript here - https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2023/01/10/1147816860/sports-world-still-built-for-men-elite-runner-wants-to-change-that

I’ll be buying the book soon. I got to meet Lauren at her Stanford Hall of Fame induction. One of the honors of my life.
Lauren and husband also a former Stanford track athlete recently sold their Pocky Bars company

Lauren is great and an excellent representative of Stanford. I can't wait to read her book.

And of course there is always her "balls" post-race interview:

Did she have anything of interest to say about it?

Lauren was with Deanna Day Evans at the time whe. I walked up and brought up the quote “ I don’t know how I did it but it took balls”. For those who don’t know she came from 20 yards or so back with 300 to go to win by 20 in the national 5 K
