"And - He - Was - Fouled!!!"
Those were the days! Thank you Bob. We need to bring back Madsen to coach. No Development and poor execution make for a very poor experience! It's time for a change....past time.

I made the same point in another thread. Madsen should not be a candidate yet. We need someone with a proven record of winning at some level.

I'd have no problem with Muir interviewing him among a list of strong candidates. More than the record, I'd mainly want Muir (and committee) to really interrogate their coaching methods, schemes, ideas, vision, and recruiting track record. And we ought to have that expectation in part b/c Muir played hoops in college, though you'd never know that (since he's watched the same shitshow we have the past seven years and hasn't lifted a finger). On paper I thought Haase was a decent hire. But from the beginning, more than his early record on the Farm, there were obvious problems in how he was coaching offense and subbing/rotating players. I'm not someone who needs or even prefers Stanford to hire alums, but I see some potential in Madsen's candidacy and would have no problem if he were among those interviewed.
Whoever would be considered, please, Muir, can Haase now and promote an asst. to interim. The team is in an absolute tailspin.

I have every problem in the world with Muir interviewing anyone for the job, but that's for another day.
Maddog belongs on the short list.

Goes without saying, but if Muir hasn't been let go already, then it's pretty clear he's on the Farm for as long as he wishes to be.

The new USF coach should be interviewed before another program scoops him up.

Question for Madsen-philes….
If he had gone to Whatsamatta U., would you still feel as strongly about him as a candidate?
One pitfall that needs to be avoided is selecting a guy based exclusively upon his membership in the Alumni Assoc.

Who was the last Stanford alum to be our head basketball coach?

After the war Howie transferred to Penn
At Stanford he led Stanford to the NCAA championship Great guy but ok coach
In football the last two Stanford grads to coach took us to 4 Rose Bowls. Yes yes Shaw ended badly

Invalid comparison. Would he be better than Haase?

Ah so who about a top assistant at a top school like Duke North Carolina or ND. Yes Hasse had four years as a head coach but those three DiBiaso Dawkins Haase
didn’t work Tom Davis fresh from a Final 4 didn’t work. A former Stanford assistant Johnson worked some thanks to the Lopis. So in the past 60 years we have had one success. Thus why not a Stanford alum?

Not sure about the last TWO Stanford Grads:
- Shaw = 3 Rose Bowls
- Wiggin = 0 Rose Bowls
- Taylor = 1 Rose Bowls

“Better than Haase” is not a very high bar to clear. I would hope that Muir would be looking for a coach that could reach the tournament on a regular basis.

And the one success graduated from Cal State Long Beach. Who cares where the coach went to college? If he can win on a consistent basis, no one will be checking his diploma.
Heck, maybe Madsen is the answer. I’m just suggesting that Muir cast a wide net….
Here’s an idea - maybe he can find a Cal guy to pair with Taylor. Jason Kidd, anyone? ;)

Gotta include the important factor, “Someone Muir would be willing to hire.” TBH I have no idea who this factor favors.

Haase is a Cal guy. Maybe that’s the problem? The last time we thought the low bar was “better than Dawkins”, and yet here we are.
