WBB - The Funky Four - WBB fan - 02-18-2023

We have four great seniors, all of whom could be playing their last games in Cardinal uniforms, or several of who might return to use their Covid years. It's been a guessing game, much discussion in the Cardboard, several threads, but I thought it might make sense to highlight them in their own thread. So here's a start.

I was out of town last week and missed an article in the SF Chron, but my seatmate at the USC game tonight mentioned it to me and I've tracked it down. I don't know if it's been posted on the cardboard as yet, haven't seen it, nor is it on the Fastbreak Club website, but here it is, re Fran, including comments on her re next year, apparently still an open question. I'm not sure about the timing, but I am certain I have seen her miss a dunk in practice.  She just goes back and does it again until it goes in.

I don't know how many of you noticed, but Iriafen dunked last night during the layup drill.

I saw Iriafen dunk.  Meant to post about it but slipped my mind after watching a game where both teams struggled to hit 50 points.  She dunked with ease.  

The Funky four have been a great class.  Will be sad to see them go.  Hope one or two sticks around an extra year.

Kiki attempted to dunk late in the game against Portland last season. It wasn't pretty, and Tara yanked her immediately.

This class of four got us the first national championship in two decades.  This class of four did so in extraordinary fashion, in the midst of one of the biggest social upheavals in a century (COVID.)  Every one of the four proved critical to our success at one point or another in their Stanford careers.  As a fan, I will be forever grateful to each of them for their contributions to the team and the great happiness and joy they have played with, and shared with me and all of you.

Agree, Yes!! 81 alum. And we all should emphasize, "every one of them." Each of them has really shined at crucial moments.  What other class of four can we say that of? I can't remember one.

My daughter is very impressed with Ashten earning a master's degree in management science and engineering while playing basketball for four years.   She is trying to decide between that degree and pursuing Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Business.
