Isn't Mark Madsen gonna be the new Head MBB Coach for Stanford?

If not, then I wonder if Mad Dog has any eligibility left?

No, he shouldn't even give him a call NOW.
1. He wasn't good at Nebraska. In fact, his record at Nebraska is shockingly similar to Haase's at Stanford. No thanks.
2. He "turned around" SJSU to go a whopping 8-8 in the Mountain West this season. Wow! 8-8 in conference!
3. Part of this "turnaround" was
bringing in eight transfers. That would be impossible here.
4. The best part? SJSU's star player, Omari Moore, was not one of the transfers...he was recruited by the previous coach. He's not even "Miles' guy."
5. He is only in season 2 at SJSU. That's not nearly enough of a sample size. (Hell, Haase's second season was actually pretty good too at 19-16 and making round 2 of the NIT. Should North Carolina have given him a call NOW based on that "clear turnaround?")
6.His season 2 at Nebraska was a similarly good "turnaround" at 19-13, that was then followed by 3 years of crap. I wouldn't take a chance on that potentially happening again.
This is the guy you're dying to hire???

If we're going to hire a coach from a state school in California, we should hire Brian Dutcher from San Diego State. That guy has done nothing but win. In his
worst season, the Aztecs went 21-13.
https://barttorvik.com/coach-history.php?coach=Brian%20Dutcher
This is the sort of resume we should be looking for. Maybe Dutcher is looking for a bigger upgrade than Stanford, but we need someone who has won in multiple seasons, not just a fluky year or two.

Let cal hire Miles.
If you want to remain local and Randy Bennett won't return your calls why not Herb Sendek? Four straight winning seasons (most since Dick Davey) and he knows offense. Other local connections include Ryan Smith of WSU (USF, Columbia) and Todd Golden of Florida.
Went to O-Club's college basketball preview for a couple of years and Ryan Smith was the most impressive coach there. Big on analytics. Todd Golden (ex-USF) is finiding out what Trent Johnson found at LSU the most important hire is your bag man. Good coach too.

Sendek would be ok
Bennett ?? No way. Even if not breaking rules would he really be able to recruit the many foreign players at Stanford? No he wouldn’t. Plus why leave st Mary’s?
Smith would have been great before WSU. Again why leave for a lesser job ?

Throw all the money being saved from not paying DS any longer to get Jay Wright to Palo Alto.

Tony Bennett, please. Should've hired him the first time around when we had the realistic chance.

Tony Bennett is an excellent choice also... Even better for style of play that is successful at Stanford. However, Wright may be more gettable since he isn't currently working (as a coach).

Sendek has been superb. He started 11-20 (no talent), went 16-15, and has won 20 (2019), 21 (2022) and 23 this past season. He has SCU's first 1st round pick since Nash (Jalen Williams, #12 overall by the Thunder). He has two grad transfers, and a soph transfer from illinois who's the star of the show, so to speak. And Sendek's a smart guy, he went to Carnegie Mellon. SCU had lost to 43 consecutive ranked opponents, then beat #22 St. Mary's last year. He's pretty accomplished. I'm definitely not interested in his leaving SCU, but if Sendek goes anywhere, I'd want him to go to Stanford.
BTW, he wrote an interesting book on coaching millenials.

If he really left his heart here, perhaps there's a chance. . . .

If.
And excuse my lack of eloquence, but Muir sucks.

I went to the Utah Valley at Seattle U game last month so that I could see Mark Madsen coach in person. He was coaching and vocally instructing his team throughout the game and constantly. He would bring structure, order, and energy to our program, things that don't appear to be present at this moment.
On the other hand, having seen what happened to his team last night against Southern Utah in the WAC tourney, I've cooled off a little on him.

I’m sorry, but you don’t get the measure of a coach’s ability by watching how he or she works on game day.

Haase is INCREDIBLY vocal and instructive from the sideline.

Utah Valley was superior on every level, except for one thing.... Southern Utah's Jones got hot. And a Utah Valley player fouled Jones twice on threes in the last 4 minutes, including the game winning 3 point play (which became a 4 point play). Fluky loss.

Utah Valley just beat Cincinnati to go to the semifinals of the NIT. North Texas and UAB also made it. Wisconsin is the only Power 5 team still in it.
