Another multi-million dollar whitewash or a serious effort to identify the administrative enablers?

Anyway you cut it, the investigation into this matter has been bungled. What a disgrace.

"...substantiated allegations of bullying and discrimination over a period of decades..."

I get annoyed when I read about unacceptable behavior going on for decades.  I can understand the student/athlete having a reluctance to speak out while on scholarship.  But after they graduate they don't say anything to the public?  At some point you have to ask the athletes "Was it expecting too much for you to speak up after you graduated and taking it to the public media if the college administrators didn't take action?"

Why didn't the athlete alums go outside the athletic department and university officials?

I think many victims just want to get on with their lives and avoid having to re-live the abuse.  Once they leave, they just want to close that chapter and move on.  Hard to blame them.

Exactly. Some will want to move on, some will still feel that the coach could derail them in the future (the coach here was very well connected to USA Swimming). Others will support the victims, but won't work to resolve the issues. Disappointing yes, but can't blame them. Sometimes even when someone stands up, the administration doesn't believe them, defends the coach, ignores them and/or ostracizes them. No one else will take the risk.

I can't blame the athlete alumni for not speaking up on my personally acceptable timeline.  The abuse probably took years to heal from, and even more so the time needed to find courage and fight the institution that was their multi-million dollar collegiate team plus athletic department.  Some might have even seen it as taking on their university.  Obviously the AD had de facto defended McKeever (by ignoring the previously file complaints)...it's not as if the abuse allegations would immediately be investigated with gravitas or urgency.

I'm glad the truth is being made known.
