Curry had no chance of landing in Stanford.  Once again, many teams will benefit from the portal.  I doubt Stanford will use the portal for reasons we have already discussed.  Stanford's #9 early pre-season ranking by ESPN is quite generous.

Stunned that Curry would choose to work with a coach who doesn't value academics...

Meanwhile, Paoapo https://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/2023/04/oregon-womens-basketball-guard-te-hina-paopao-enters-transfer-portal.html is leaving Oregon.

Oregon struggled last season with talent.  Unless they reload vis the portal, which is very possible, they will be hurting next season.  At this point, what is the purpose of signing HS kids anymore?  Most of them end up at a different school or two different schools, even three for a few players.  I read that on average 3 or 4 players leave each program nowadays between seasons to the portal.  If that many go, how many make it through four years at the same place?  This is ridiculous.  Players who are on good teams with a good coach, and who play a lot now bolt for the "bigger stage," the bigger NIL amount, maybe more attention so they can build a "brand."  How this helps the vast majority of college players who will never play professionally or maybe will play a bit in a foreign league before getting on with life, I don't know.  If playing college basketball is so miserable that players feel their mental health is at risk and/or they are perpetually unhappy and thus transfer hunting for something better/more fun/whatever, what is the point?

My modest proposal: would take some help from NCAA --

1. NIL payouts should be "vested" the same way that many company pensions are, ie backloaded to reward staying for at least 4 years (extra bonus if you graduate with a degree).  Delayed payout for at least 4 years after you enroll as a frosh, or some pro-rated period if you transfer in..

2. Schools simply form and administer their own NIL funds.  Corporate sponsors would have to funnel through the school NIL infrastructure. Donors and boosters have an interest in seeing players stay with their team and would go along.

3. You transfer, you lose your vesting in NIL.

4. Probably too naive on my part, but seems simple enough, after 2 mins of thought.

MODS -- feel free to move this to the other WBB thread if you feel it's more appropriate there.

At Arizona it’s not just players bailing it’s assistant coaches also. The wording on this story is interesting

Oregon's PG Paopao is in the transfer portal, if she does end up transferring then all of Oregon's 2020 recruiting class has transferred out of the program.  Ouch!
