Wow. Take the degree and get outta Dodge. Happy that MOC isn't leaving the degree on the table.

As I understand it, if he graduated, then he can't return to play unless accepted into a graduate program. Even if accepted, he has to look at the lineup next year and figure he has gone from starter to 3rd pg off the bench. Plus he was one heck of an lacrosse player and maybe he wants to go somewhere and play that game for a year or two. There are any number of good schools back East that might want him for that skill, not basketball.

But Muir told us that the players LOVE playing for Coach Haase...I guess only 75% do

My guess this little to do with Haase. Has more to do that he has graduated, has his degree in hand and doesn't want to sit on the bench. He may well be able to get into some good Eastern school with basketball and lacrosse and have two years of graduate school paid for while he plays. Princeton, Yale and Harvard are the top 3 lacrosse schools according to one list. They are followed by Michigan, UNC, UVA and Maryland. He was signed by Maryland out of highschool. The first six are awfully good schools academically. Not sure he would be a basketball candidate for all, but my guess he could certainly play for the Ivies.

How would we feel if he ended up at Cal?

Not so good, but Cal is at least a good school. I think he is headed for the East Coast. He is an East Coast kid and if he wants to live and work there after school, he won't get hurt by having a graduate degree from one of the top 6 Lacrosse Schools. Or if someplace like Columbia or Dartmouth plays lacrosse, those degrees won't hurt him much back East either.
I wish him the best, he played hard and he played tough, we will miss his leadership, but I see next years team as Spencer's team. His competition for team leadership are now in the portal. Hope springs eternal, Football and Basketball seasons can't get here fast enough.

This was a highlight for me of O'Connell's time at Stanford. Not the matador defense as Tyger Campbell blew by him or the foul O'Connell committed late in the game to give UCLA a chance to win. It was the perfect inbounds pass to Da Silva at the buzzer to snatch a victory over UCLA out of thin air.

Unless I am greatly misled, he cannot play for the Ivies.

I think the COVID exception was only for students already enrolled at the school. Transfers didn't qualify. Maybe that changed?

13.2 ppg for his career against Arizona. A Stanford legend! Nothing but the best for his future- the guy is clearly a competitor.

Most of you are selling MOC short. There is still untapped upside. He will end up starting on a good team or come off the bench for a top 15 team.
FYI, Cormac Ryan has transferred to North Carolina.

If Twitter tea leaves are to be believed, Ingram is headed to Chapel Hill as well.

MOC lacks the speed to start for a good team, especially on defense. Opposing PGs have regularly walked around him.

Disagree and looking forward to seeing where he lands.

Since MOC hasn't made a decision on where he plays (HI already made his), I'm mentioning another Stanford-affiliated player who is in the portal looking for a team:
Jaiden Delaire
Don't know how he has eligibility left since he played 4 years at Stanford and 1 at San Diego which should cover his COVID year.

Delaire had a season-ending injury ~1/3 of the way through the season and thus eligible for a medical redshirt.

O'Connell started tonight for NC State against Duke, but he is averaging fewer minutes per game (22) than he did at Stanford (25.7 last season). I tune into the second half and see him lose the ball immediately.
But O'Connell is averaging 3 assists per game against 1 turnover this season, a definite improvement from his last year at Stanford when he averaged 3.1 assists per game and 1.6 turnovers.
NC State is 17-12 and has a NET ranking of 80. Very unlikely that they make the NCAA tournament as an at-large selection, but a win tonight would at least keep those dreams alive, I would think.
EDIT: Duke wins pretty easily, 79-64. MOC finishes the night with three points, two assists and one turnover.
