Season ticket seat upgrades -
cctop - 06-05-2023
I just took a look at the season ticket seat upgrade portal.
I've never seen so much availability of good seats at this time of year, not even after the 1-11 season in 2006.
For anyone bullish about Troy Taylor & the future of the program it's a great year to lock in seats.
As for the Stanford sports marketing department...well, they seem to have just given up.

In 2006 it was possible to upgrade with perhaps a small increase in ticket price. Now, the upgrades also include four figure donations per seat. For many those dollars are not trivial, especially to watch a team likely to finish in the bottom of the Pac-12 in a largely empty stadium late in the season.
If in 2006 I would have upgraded to better seats, but in 2023 I seriously entertained downgrading. Ultimately the donation required is not too different from the donation I would provide anyway, so I opted to stay in my zone. I am not bearish about Troy Taylor as a football coach, but I am bearish about Stanford's chances with the rising importance of the transfer portal.
The unfavorable time zone and population density in the West are not ideal for those programs trying to retain strong coaches in the Pac-X, but Stanford's transfer portal challenges seem to be destined to be chronic and problematic for coach retention and sustained excellence in football.
I do recall a lot of my football neighbors at the end of last season were trying to decide if they could really justify season tickets in a world without UCLA and USC on the schedule, so that will likely also put downward pressure on ticket renewals too.
