Shocking lack of commentary from last night's game. - cardcrimson - 10-22-2023

Not a single mention here or elsewhere about Shaw. Doesn't his son play for UCLA? Doesn't he still live in the area? Did he have the huevos to show up last night? Did he walk the UCLA sideline? Is he embarrassed with the shambles he left?

yes his son plays for UCLA, saw him (the son) on the sideline (#7), we sit in sec 134 behind the visiting team bench, did not see him in the game but we left at halftime...

I seem to remember his son being a Bruin walk-on (?).  As for his absence from the current limelight, I think this is what's described militarily as a strategic retreat. Had he stepped down after the 2018 Sun Bowl, 2019, or the Covid season, it would have been better for him, his program, his legacy and for Stanford. And I can't believe this has not occurred to him. Of course, he would vehemently deny it publicly. It's a shame that after all the accolades and championships and confetti showers that he would be on the down-low at this time -- but not surprising.

OTOH I would tend to call it being "politically correct". If he enters the limelight, he will undoubtedly be asked questions about the current staff's actions. No matter what he says at that point, including refusing to answer, it will be interpreted as criticism. It isn't his team any more. It is TT's team. Staying out of it is, IMO, the correct thing to do.

Yep.  The only purpose he could serve is being a distraction.  Why would he want to do that?  I would imagine he has moved on with no intention of looking back.  Smart guy - that is the best way to go - always take the high road when given an option (quite frankly, fans should do the same - revel in the Rose Bowl memories. Heck, I think of one school that wishes they could)……..

Of all the things to be outraged over, David Shaw's absence from last night's game is not one of them.

RE: Shocking lack of commentary from last night's game. - JohnR34231 - 10-22-2023

IMO, people should remember the good things David Shaw did at Stanford rather than the bad things, and move on.

It was homecoming and he is an alumni.  I wonder if he attended non-football activities.  None of our business I guess.

In terms of other commentary I did my usual long thoughts posts on the various sites but can’t remember/figure out how to get around this board’s annoying screwing up of text, so if anybody wants to post my thoughts here that’s cool with me.

Shaw was hired to do one job, don't mess up Luck's last year.  How did that work out?

Agreed. I feel about David Shaw similar to the way I feel about Bruce Bochy. I take great pride and pleasure in their multiple Rose and other Bowl wins/World Series championships versus the three losing seasons at the ends of their respective careers which necessitated coaching changes.

I would if I knew what he was referring to.

Matt, can you be specific, please?

Thought you were talking about coverage of the game.  Apathy deserved

FWIW, David Shaw did walk by my tailgate pregame.

Huh??? This may be the most bizarre Shaw take I've heard yet.

Thank goodness no one else held this view or we would've been deprived of three of the greatest seasons in program history.

Finally, some reporting. Baby blue attire?
