Apologies if this has been posted, but really cool to see Sam Schwartztein highlighted as one of the model by Amazon now being used on Thursday night football to identify potential blitzers before the play.  Also, the guys helping teach the model are a veritable who’s who of former Stanford players and a former coach:

Quote: Again, Schwartzstein doesn’t know exactly how the model is making some of these predictions. It’s learning on its own as it keeps getting data, but don’t worry, football purists. The model is also getting input from a panel of actual football people that includes former players and coaches like Andrew Luck, Geoff Schwartz, David Shaw, David DeCastro, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Andrew Whitworth, Nate Tice and Andrew Phillips.

Cool stuff. I might have to tune in on Thursday to watch.

I don't have DirecTV, NFL Ticket, ESPN or whatever is used to broadcast NFL games these days, but I do have Prime, so I get to watch the X-ray stats and AI overlays on Thursday Night Football.  It's really fun.

Speaking of AI, here's a UCLA blurb completely constructed around one sentence from Troy Taylor.  The whole "article" feels like ChatGPT wrote it.

The mediocre writing does sound like an LLM effort, except a cursory review indicates that the writer/AI tool uses the word "effort" when they mean "afford." Human error...
