The Israel thread closed. The Israel thread is closed thread is closed. Is it too much to ask the powers that be why? What set them off the rails? What was unacceptable?

I think there were people on the board who had a hard time containing their emotions in that thread. They were trying to hold it in but you could tell it was difficult. The moderators here are pretty strict about this being a non-controversial site.

Agreed. There were complaints about the political nature of the thread in the thread and others likely sent private requests that it be closed. Even though I did learn some things from it, I always thought that the thread was out of line with the rules and was not likely to last because of the emotional political nature of the issue.
I care more about this site as a great space to read about all kinds of Stanford sports and non-political issues (where is my graphene update?). The moderators have seen too many cases where posters on this board felt that "their side" of political issues wasn't treated fairly. I am really happy to focus on Stanford sports without worrying about, or even knowing, the political leanings of other Cardboarders. Having political threads lead to us losing some long-time posters. I don't want to lose more of our small number of Stanford sports fanatics because of politics.
We have a football game on Saturday and hoops are about to get going again. I'm going to focus on them and look to other sources for my politics.
Cheers,
Pete F.

This thread is offensive to people who don't like questions.
