A chance to go undefeated against the Pac-2.

I predict our D is good again.
But OSU offense gets more going than WSU regardless, and scores 24.
I predict our O is better than at WSU but not quite good enough.
Karty kicks 7 field goals... or through some other combination we score 21 points, making it competitive but not quite enough.
I also predict that I'll be wrong.... and hopeful wrong by underestimating the Card.

What does moral victory look like for this game? This is probably the only season I've been OK with Stanford getting moral victories.
In retrospect, the Arizona game might be considered one, though at the time it seemed like a game to be upset about not winning given Karty's misses. Washington to me counts as one. Oregon was close, given the 14-6 halftime score, but the 28-0 second half wiped that out.
So Stanford has one moral victory for sure, one maybe moral victory, and three actual victories. So I could argue Stanford is actually 5-4 or 4-5 in terms of whether the game outcome was Horrible or Not Horrible.
As I see it, Stanford has chances for two more moral victories this year, against the Beavers and Irish, with Cal being no chance for moral victory.
Is moral victory against Beavers holding them to 31 or less? Losing by no more than 14? Scoring at least 24?

I like your post, jogged a nerve in me.
Like you I generally think moral victories is a bunch of hooey.
Except in this case. This case being this (new) Coach and this greatly depleted and cobbled together roster.
So yes I think Arizona in hindsight is a moral victory, partly because I didn't appreciate at the time how good they've gotten.
And yes UDub a moral victory.
This matches something I said way back when, after Coach Shaw left, and new Coach TT signed up, and it was apparent that boatloads of veteran players were fleeing our shores.
I said then that if Coach TT can remain Competitive in a bunch of games, even if not getting a lot of wins, that would have achieved some kind of moral victory for this team for this season.
My loose definition of Competitive is going into the 4th quarter not being sure which team will pull out the win.
So I'd suggest if we ended up on the short end of a 24-21 game vs OSU (or something like that) it would be a moral victory.
And yes, where CAL is involved, there is no moral victory, only utmost spectacular and vindicating victory, or despicably crushing despair.
Hopefully CAL draws the despair straw this time.

Vegas has the Beavs by 20. They have one of the best rushing attacks in the country and are extremely old in the trenches (men vs. boys again). Staying within 2 scores is a moral victory when the matchup is this bad.

STANFORD FACES TOUGH ODDS
We go to Corvallis a heavy underdog, by 3 TDs; ESPN rates the #12 Beavs (7-2) better than 94% chance of win... with rain in the forecast
... in November.
At least we mercifully get a 2:30pm PT kickoff (on Pac12N) because ORST is ranked. A Daylight Game!
Nothing lines up well here:
* ORST runs a disciplined balanced attack (unlike USC). QB Uiegalelei is sharp.
* They have a 1,000 yard rusher in Martinez (He likely goes over the 1,000 seasonal mark against us).
Who is Stanford's leading rusher this season? Sadly, backup QB Lamson with just 225 yards (!).
That frees up Beavs to blitz on nearly any down. What happened to the O-Line that delivered Gerhart, Gaffney, MacCaff, B.Love?
* ORST excels at Special Teams, under-rated; they can burn us.
* Is there a miracle pathway?
1) Forcing turnovers in the rain
2) Taking chances with hidden blitzes and more man coverage.
3) We need to make a Special Teams TD, blocked punt.
4) More Cowbell: Throw short to TEs.
5) Ayomanor somehow goes nuts. ?
6) QB Daniels gets loose for TDs.
We need to do ALL that.
Realistically:
ORST 35, STAN 13; they cover.

Sorry but I think a solid rushing team eats us alive. Oregon State and Notre Dame will do so . Oregon .state to cover the 20 point spread. OSU 39 Stanford 17.

We will struggle to get 2 TDs in the rain and slop with no Cardinal rushing attack.
I predict Beavs get one TD on special teams -- either a runback or a blocked kick score.

Moral victory elements:
1) Scoring first, and rushing for more than 100 yards.
2) Holding them below 21 points (the spread)... See WAST last week.
3) Two Defensive Turnovers by us, that lead to points. And no turnovers by us. (miracle).
4) More than four sacks, ideal with a fumble - scoop and score. [But, ORST is very disciplined; remote chance]
