Notes on the 2024 Stanford Football Personnel grid:
1. The grid lists players by class year and not eligibility. In the era of transfers and NIL, this seems to be a better way to keep track of players.
2. To the 2023 Stanford Football Personnel grid, I have added 35 players.
a. The 33-person incoming “CardClass24,” consisting of 25 scholarship players and eight preferred walk-ons (PWOs).
b. Four transfer student-athletes
==> Rising junior ILB Jahsiah Galvan (Northern Iowa)
==> Rising junior S Jaivion Green (UW)
==> Rising senior TE Griffin Waiss (UW; non-scholarship)
==> Rising 6th year DL Clay Patterson (Yale)
Note: Green played significantly his freshman and sophomore seasons, so does not have a redshirt. Galvan has three years of eligibility remaining, Waiss two, Patterson one.
3. From the 2023 Stanford Football Personnel grid, I have removed 35 players; those who regularly started marked in bold.
a. One scholarship player declaring for the NFL draft (with eligibility remaining); NFL draft status and team will added parenthetically

4. Positioning
a. Sophomore Tre Williams has switched from OLB to ILB.
b. The official roster does not designate specific positions for offensive linemen. I have listed OL players at specific positions in the grid to help us discern depth, pipeline, and possible starting combinations, though the grid designation of specific players will likely change as positions are determined by the coaching staff.
5. The grid is fluid. Players projected to graduate or transfer could return, transfers could join, or players could retire. I will update the grid as decisions are made.
6. Rostering
a. When a player is listed on the official roster at two positions, I have listed them in the grid according to the position named on the front side of the slash. For instance, if a player is rostered as cornerback/safety, I have them listed as a tackle.
b. The Devery Hamilton Rule: If a player ends up getting more playing time at the position named at the backside of the slash, they are considered rostered at that position; e.g., if a tackle/guard ends up playing guard, I switch them to guard in the grid.
c. If a player's listing on the roster is ambiguous (e.g., "defensive back" or "athlete"), I have listed them in the grid according to where they receive the most playing time.
7. I have removed all injury designations, though I realize that some players are still injured. I have kept other positional responsibility designations when the player is returning.
8. You will note that starters may be marked for some positions based on past starts or various projections. I will adjust once position status clears.

Today is the opening of the spring transfer portal (April 16-30). While I have no inside information, I would not be surprised if there are more. It's probably what we should expect going forward.

Aaron Armitage has entered the transfer portal and posted his good-bye to Stanford. He played in four games as a junior, with four tackles and one TFL. He seemed on track as a sophomore to be a major contributor, playing in eight games and making 15 tackles.

Staff knew, of course, we had to get down to that number. I wonder if Wyrick and Armitage solved the problem for them by transferring, or if they were encouraged to transfer with warning of low playing time?
Wyrick, man. His career was the inverse of what is expected. Played a ton as a true freshman, less the next year, and less this past year.
At any rate, we are now compliant.

Looks like we just picked up a first-team all-IVY DL, Clay Patterson. He's a 290-pound grad transfer and looks like a potential difference-maker. He has a decidedly better resume than previous Ivy League transfers.

Take a closer look at the roster and you'll notice 4 additional names no longer on it: LB Benjamin Hudson (who has also entered the portal, by the way), CB Caleb Ellis, RB Brendon Barrow, and DL Pat Caughey.
