Texas is the only team who is still playing that has a chance of upending us for the final #1 seed. We should be big Kansas State fans as the two teams face off this afternoon in the Big 12 conference tournament.

Question: Is there an appreciable difference between a #1 seed and a #2 seed? Leftcoast has it right in the other thread - this is all about matchups, which means a lot of this is luck and having other teams take out teams you can't take out. I think there is also a pretty good blueprint on how to beat Stanford for teams with enough talent. If the difference is between being the fourth overall (#1 seed) and 5th overall (#2 seed), the difference is mostly the color of uniform you wear in the regional final if chalk prevails, right?

Yes there is with respect to the Sweet Sixteen matchup. The potential 3 seeds (Notre Dame, UConn, NC State, Oregon State) are much more dangerous than the potential 4 seeds (Virginia Tech, Gonzaga, Indiana, Kansas State).

It's looks like we are #3 overall, which is surpising; as he has USC as the #1 seed on the same side of #1 overall South Carolina

Which side of bracket may also have to do with IIRC their preference that those in same conference who are 1 seeds do not play one another until National Championship?

Stanford, USC, and UCLA are all in different regionals. Iowa, Ohio St, and Indiana in different regionals, etc. So that factored into us getting LSU as our 2.
Texas is the only top-10 team that's still playing. If they lose, maybe they would drop below LSU, and LSU might move over to USC's regional. Fingers crossed.

The author of this article has Stanford getting the remaining #1 seed over the heifers. Reasoning is that Stanford has more wins over top teams than the heifers and the Pac 12 is much stronger that the Big 12.

The regular season winner of the best conference shouldn't be punished too badly for losing one game to the conference's second best team that is also a #1 seed. Following along with the author, even if Texas were to get the #1 seed, we would probably end up as the top #2 seed and be in the same bracket as Texas which I think is a way better matchup than LSU. I don't like seeing the Zags as our #4 though. They are a tough out as a #4, and it's never good to have to face a team who's already beaten you.

The most important thing to me is to be placed in Portland, not Albany. However it would not be a favorable matchup to play Gonzaga in Portland.
LSU-USC would be intense! I also would love to see USC vs. Notre Dame. Watkins vs. Hidalgo.

Zags lost their conference championship to Portland. That will affect their seeding.... Maybe even banished to Albany.
If we go by star power (fan interest in watching the games), I'm thinking that the NCAA/TV people would like to see the following in the EE/FF (no particular order):
-Clark (Iowa)
-Reese (LSU)
-Brink (Stanford)
-JuJu (U$C)
-Hidalgo (USB)
-Bueckers (Yukon)
-UCLA collectively
-S. Carolina collectively

With Gonzaga losing to Portland, it takes away one more at large bid now having to make room for both Gonzaga and a 12 loss Portland team in the bracket. Hope that doesn't kick Adia and Arizona out.

Portland beating Gonzaga has potential implications for bubble teams. Gonzaga will still make the tournament, but now, so will Portland, I e , two teams from the WCC. Probably means a bubble team has lost a place. Arizona?

It appears we have thrown that old adage about concentrating on the next game out the window (kind of like that old rebounding admonition about following your shot…)
If we don't play substantially better in our next game (and, if all goes well in that one, in the game after that), Albany vs. Portland will be wholly irrelevant.
