David McCarty - Mick - 04-24-2024

Apologies if this has already been posted. Former Stanford Cardinal baseball legend David McCarty ('91) passed away on the 19th, age 54. Cause was a cardiac event.

McCarty is in the Stanford Hall of Fame. He was a first team All America and Pac-12 Player of the Year when he led the team in batting in 1991 (.420), has the second highest overall career hitting record (.359), and sixth most career home runs (41).

David was the third overall selection in the MLB draft by the Twins. He also played for both the Giants and the A's, along with the Royals and the Mariners in an 11-year MLB career.

Here's an interview with David. Very likeable man: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/147987-through-the-eyes-ofdavid-mccarty-world-champion-human-being

Very sad to lose someone so young. Reminds me of Peter Sauer (although he was even younger, wasn’t he?).

Sauer was 35. Cracked his skull on a concrete basketball court after having chest pains from an enlarged heart.

Saw him play at Stanford. Very sad news.
