Fabulous news - we desperately needed more support in the post. I'm excited to see how this team comes together - and while I don't expect us to compete for a national title, I think we have a solid core for the next year.

I'm no longer depressed re the prospects for next season. Now, instead, getting excited  but this news, great as. It is, raises questions. The Card will now be up to a 14 woman rooster. Who loses playing time? And might we see people who thought they were going to play more, e. G. This years frosh, consider heading for the portal next year. Nothing is simple!

Yeah, I'm already worried about dissatisfaction due to lack of playing time. I'm not sure what I'd call the sweet spot, though. I hope 14 is the perfect number.

Wow.  Yes, I wonder how the 2nd and 3rd undergraduate transfers in the history of WBB will affect team culture, but strictly on paper this was exactly what we needed. MAS is a fabulous player who can move, shoot from midrange or in close and also has three point range.  She has starting experience in a major conference.  She is very physical and finishes with contact.  She seems good with the pick and roll.  She is reputedly a very good defender, although none of the highlight reels really show her on defense.  This transfer is probably more important than the other, since she will immediately step into the Kiki gap--not that she will be Kiki caliber, but she will definitely take the sting out of the loss.  And, like Brooke Smith, she comes with three years of eligibility.  She is just 6'2" so she is an active forward and not a towering center--I see her at the 4 in competition with Agara and maybe Demetre, and not at the 5 which will probably be Umeh or maybe Peterson or Demetre when we need more height.

Now that we have seen history made with two transfers in, we also know that Kate was given a tool by admissions that Tara was not given.  Somehow Stanford policy on transfers in has become a bit more flexible.  My guess is that Kate held out for this tool before accepting the job, and that she and Muir played it very close to the vest at her inaugural press conference so as not to give away to competitors that Stanford was in the hunt.

Purdue fans must be crestfallen.

Sports at Stanford have been getting transfers last 2 years. I don’t believe this to be a Kate only thing
Peterson is a wing not a post

While your list has some nice symmetry to it, I’d move Clardy to PG and Stevenson to the Combo Forward group — though I hope she turns out to be effective defending true centers.

Bob, we haven't had an undergraduate transfer in WBB since Brooke in 2003, and now we get two in one year?  21 years without any, and 2 in one year, which just happens to be the year Tara retires?  Can't be a coincidence.

No, Peterson may not be a post, but neither is Demetre or Agara, really.  But the only way those three are not going to be playing at the 5 and the 4 is if the two tall freshmen start.  Maybe Kate will be different from Tara and play the freshmen a lot more than Tara did, but otherwise I predict we will see Peterson at the 4 when the freshmen are sitting and perhaps the three when at least one of them is in.

Stanford's increased receptiveness to transfers seems to be a general trend, not a policy that is specific to women's basketball. The football team has had something like 7 or 8 incoming transfers in the last two years.

Are transfers being accepted for all students or is this a privilege only for athletes?

As much as I would have also liked Chen. We got 2 players who have multiple years of eligibility remaining. About as good as we can hope for with the portal. I don’t know that either will be superstars but rather good foundation players. The 2025 class will be a very important one. Hoping for Lara Somfia and Jazzy Davidson to round it out.

Absolutely Somfai and Davidson are must haves for sure, with Woliczko as another must get from the 2026 class.
