Andrew Luck’s commitment to Stanford athletics is reaching for the international stage, as he and his wife, Nicole Pechanec, plan to provide housing for five gymnasts trying to make it to Paris this summer.
NBC Sports’ Zora Stephenson made note of this decision during the U.S. Gymnastics Championships this past weekend in Fort Worth, Texas. The plan is to house five Cardinal gymnasts while they train for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team. Trials for the gymnastics side are set to take place in Minneapolis June 27-30.
…
This isn’t the first time Luck and Pechanec have helped out Stanford gymnastics. As the San Francisco Chronicle reported in October, they addressed the collective’s blind spots in women’s sports by sponsoring the freshmen on the gymnastics team. Lifetime Cardinal also endorsed the women’s basketball team, which finished ninth in the country last season.
…
Not only are Luck and Pechanec providing a living space, but they also want to provide some amenities. The couple reportedly plans on making weekly trips to the farmers market and hand-delivering groceries to the team house. That means if any of these men make the Paris Games, they can claim they were fueled by Luck.

Thanks for the article, and good for Andrew and Nicole. Funny, it doesn't mention the great Brody Malone.

Ok. I thought I heard the hopefuls were training in Minneapolis, or?? Dumb to call Brody a hopeful, though.

For those who may not know, Luck’s wife, Nicole Pechanec, was a Stanford Gymnast who competed for the Czech Republic in the Olympics. Her parents were gymnasts and coaches who defected during the Cold War era.
Here’s a good article from GoStanford.com written during her senior year covering her parent’s story and Nicole’s own-“A Gymnastics Journey”. (No mention of Luck in the article but an interesting factoid included is her major, Architecture Design!)

Gymnasts were always the troublemakers at our parties. Something about a willingness to climb things after being overserved.
