cord cutter here, need to make friends to watch our away football games -
tailgater - 07-31-2024
i'm a fairly recent cord cutter here... i cancelled my xfinity cable service in january, managing to survive so far but know i will experience withdrawals once college football season rolls around. whether it be stanford road games or any weekly matchup between two ranked teams. for all our home games i'll be fine since i'll be down on the farm watching it.
i'm a 30-something affiliate who lives a few miles from campus so ideally you'd be close to the paly area. if i get invited over to watch a game on any given saturday i don't mind contributing in some fashion whether it be ordering doordash from your favorite nearby restaurant, bringing something for the grill, bringing your beverage of choice etc. if fandom matters at all i'm of course a fan of stanford football, 49ers, & sf giants and can talk your ear off from the early 2000's to the present day when it comes to any of those sports in general. if you're going to be in front of the tv for most of the day on any given saturday and want to make a new friend who probably enjoys college football as much as you do then please reach out! i completely understand you would need to vet me before inviting a stranger into your home. let's meet somewhere near paly/stanford for happy hour one of these afternoons, first round's on me!

We cut the cord 30 years ago. I use Fubo.tv and ESPN+ for streaming. Not sure about ACC coverage, as my Fubo subscription is currently pausec.

personally i don't blame you for cutting the cord. cable and satellite are getting ridiculous.

good to know there's workarounds. also curious about how ACC coverage will play out on a weekly basis. for the matchup on october 5th with Clemson @ FSU i'm sure ABC/ESPN would pick that up in a heartbeat. while a matchup like Stanford @ (insert ACC team name here) is probably exclusive to ACC Network..

yes i could no longer justify shelling out that much on a monthly basis when i only really sit down and watch during college football season. though i very well might bite when ESPN offers their standalone subscription service sometime in 2025.

It ... wasn't the price 30 years ago.

Looks like the combined streaming from ESPN, Fox, and Warner bros will be $43/month.

It won't help much but 13 ACC games are being broadcast over the air on the CW network (channel 4 in the Bay Area).
The Notre Dame game will be on NBC. So at least one and maybe more of the 4 games outside the Bay Area will be broadcast over the air.
In addition, the San Jose State game will be on CBS.

You can also check at the Goose to see if they will be showing the game.
However, be forewarned that the Goose can be frustrating. Only happened once, but I went there to watch a Stanford football game. Apparently, an Oregon duck contingent had reserved many of the tables, and they were given control of the TVs (what channels were being shown).
They had the quackers game on every TV. When I asked the staff if they could change one TV to the Stanford game (I thought it was a Stanford hangout), they said that I would need to ask the Head quack. I did, and he refused to change any of the TVs.

A judge blocked Venu (ESPN + Fox Sports + Warner Bros streaming service) from launching, saying it would “substantially lessen competition and restrain trade.”. Sounds right.

A lot of litigation to follow - ABC, Fox, WBD won't take this injunction lying down.
