Football team's flight cancelled due to weather - cctop - 09-26-2024
Unconfirmed reports on Twitter say that the football team sat on the tarmac at SJC for two hours before the flight was cancelled. They're supposed to fly out to Clemson at 1:30pm Friday instead.

that's appears to be about correct, and apparently flying back home not long after the game....of course this assumes the flight tomorrow is not also canceled....

The storm is supposed to pass Clemson by about noon Eastern time on Friday. So weather shouldn't be an issue unless there's an issue with air traffic control backed up.
But yeah, the team will likely not get to their hotel until 10pm or 11pm Friday night.
Does the team usually hold a practice the day of a night game? I wonder where they'd do it. Clemson has an indoor practice field but it's likely their own team will be using it.

given the kickoff is 7pm ET I would guess they could still do a walkthrough in the stadium before the game

It seems like they should have just gone back to Stanford and held Friday’s practice on Thursday afternoon. I don’t think there’s much chance for a successful practice on Friday evening anymore.

Well, I got to Atlanta tonight, just in time for the hurricane. Planning to drive to Greenville tomorrow and heading to the game Saturday. Weather is supposed to be fine Saturday. Hopefully the team gets here by then.

I would expect that they'll do their walk-thru tomorrow morning at Stanford before flying. That's a typical itinerary for a road game. It's understandable why they would want to fly out a day early given the length of the flight but now they'll basically just be back on a normal schedule. Given the late kickoff, they should be fine. Players and coaches spend most of game day just lounging around the hotel before a night kickoff anyways.
The aspect of this trip that will be a real kick to the nether regions for the coaches is the return trip and getting a late start prepping for VT. One of the silver linings to the Syracuse game was they got an extra day with that game being on a Friday.
