FB -- Other Games Week 5 -

What a game between VT and Miami. Came down to the final play. A hail Mary by VT that was swallowed by a cluster of players at the back of the end zone. A Miami defender eventually emerged from the pile holding the ball and celebrating as his team stormed the field. But wait, not so fast my friend, the officials signaled TD for VT!! It was VT's turn to storm the field in celebration. But wait, not so fast, the play is under further review. After several minutes of torture for the players and the full stadium in Miami, it was announced that the call on the field was overturned. Miami wins and remains undefeated.
Meanwhile, UW goes down to Rutgers 21-18. UW's kicker missed a 55 yard FG with no time remaining (his 3rd miss of the game). Rutgers is undefeated.

I wasn’t watching, but UW (3-2) lost to Rutgers (4-0) 21-18. Such a shame…NOT.

UW outgained Rutgers by 222 yds, won TOP, zero turnovers, (well, two on downs) but ended up missing three FGs. Rutgers punted seven times, and UW punted twice. UW should have won this game by all rights, except...they couldn't execute when they needed to do so. What a wild game.

The Huskies have a tough road ahead, playing four ranked teams. A team that made the NC game last year may struggle to make a bowl game this year.

If so that would be the second year in a row in which the national title runner-up didn’t make a bowl the next year.

Washington was going to have "challenges" this year no matter what. Last year's team had 10 players drafted by the NFL. Four others were UDFA. They were a mature bunch that left a very big hole by their departure. When the coach left it added another problem. Players were now free to leave with no stigma attached. The new head coach (Jedd Fisch) was expected to bring a pretty good "haul" of transfers with him from the University of Arizona. In particular Noah Fifita and Tetairoa McMillan were considered "locks" to transfer. Neither did. That all by itself was a major blow to this year's Washington team. Fisch may have success in the future, but this year he simply lacks the talent and experience. Losing to Rutgers is probably below the reasonable expectations for this team, but not by much. Missing several field goals was more than enough to remove the available slack.

Rutgers was favored going in last night.

VA Tech is 2-3 with all close losses, no power conference wins, and a bye week following the Stanford game. It seems like they’ll be very motivated to turn around their season against us.
But first things first - let’s get out of Clemson alive and with some signs of improvement (particularly OL and QB).

I'm gritting my teeth during the game this afternoon with hopes for a competent defense and an offense that is schemed to hide our weaknesses and show some flash. If we have to kick ten field goals of 50+ yds to win...I think Stanford can do that.

Unranked Wisconsin might take a two-score lead (21-10) over #13 USC into the half. *laughs in schadenfreude*
With 3:46 left in the 1H, #16 Notre Shame is leading #15 L'ville 24-14. Maybe L'ville isn't that good, and maybe we'll have a shot...
Unranked Kentucky over #6 Ole Miss, 20-17 feels amazing, the Cats' first win in Oxford since 1978. The $EC can assume the mantle of the conference that eats itself.
Louisiana (Ragin' Cajuns) just kicked an XP to take a 21-10 lead over Wake Forest with 1:12 left in the 1H.
TCU leads Kansas 21-17 at the half. Would be nice to make TCU a good loss for us, but that's not much separation from a historically not-great Big 12 team.

OR Hokies could psychologically implode...
I thought the WR had the ball in the End Zone on the final tick, but ACC studio refs said,
"A Miami player sitting out of bounds touched the ball, killing the play."

Toejams shut the door on Wisc pretty hard. Wisc with a typical unimaginative Big10 offense.

With each week, I wish we had Florida State on our schedule this year (would help our bowl prospects). FSU getting crushed
in Dallas by SMU 42-16.
