12:30 kickoff, VaTech -6.5 - gailtate - 09-30-2024

Tough chance considering injuries but this is one game Stanford needs to put in the W column. The balance of the season reveals NO gimmes -- despite the knee-jerk low regard this board seems to have for WF and San Jose State. Taylor's squad right now is an eminently beatable one.

Spread has jumped to 8.5/9.5.

probably assuming Daniels can't play on Saturday

The temperature in Palo Alto could hit 90 degrees on Saturday afternoon. The sunny side is going to feel pretty warm!

RE: 12:30 kickoff, VaTech -6.5 - jacket3ree - 09-30-2024

Coach Ken has Sparta rolling. Don't see Taylor beating him, but it is a long way off.

Maybe Wake. Maybe.

The rest of the schedule without a real quarterback?  Probably not happening.

Re: Coach Ken - I can't stand Gladchuck, Navy's AD, but this might have been a surprising win-win. Coach Ken needed new scenery and the Mids needed a new voice.  Coach Best Beard on the Planet has the goats looking impressive this year with the new OC from Mercer. How cool would Army-Navy be with a playoff spot on the line?  Although I'm not sure how that would work, since they would be playing back to back games for a conference title. Definitely not cool. That assumes a lot, like taking down Notre Dame (each) and Tulane without stubbing a toe somewhere else.

I'll be happy if I live through Notre Dame three weeks in a row this year. Stanford 10/12, Tech 10/19, and Navy 10/26. Shoot even UVA plays them 11/16.  Thanks for messing it up for everyone else NIU......

Wake Forest just lost their third consecutive home game, this time to Louisiana (they already lost to Virginia at home). Maybe you can make an argument that SJSU is underrated, but the low regard for this year's Wake Forest squad is well warranted. By definition, there are no gimme games in college football (particularly with our squad/talent level), but including Wake Forest undermines the "Stanford is going to collapse spectacularly" to another pitiful season argument (playing without Brown and Daniels for a significant period of time would be the strongest argument).

That TD pass that Lamson threw at the end of the Clemson game was pretty.  Even though it was garbage time, the receiver was well covered and Lamson dropped that ball on a dime.  Other passes he threw in the game were not so impressive.  But, hey, he's a fighter and he's tough.  Assuming he has worked as QB1 with the first team O this week, maybe he will sync up with our receivers and surprise everyone and lead his team to victory.

BTW, I have two BIG questions I would love to ask TT.

1. Why aren't we targeting #13 more?
2. Why is #23 not playing more snaps on defense?

This is a big game! Stanford has not defeated an FBS opponent at home in nearly two years, not since ASU homecoming game on October 22, 2022. 0-9 vs. FBS since then at home.

Hope that the Cardinal give the fans that show up (however many or few there are) something to cheer about.

However many that show up for a 12:30 kickoff will undoubtedly be greatly reduced by the fourth quarter. The temperature at 3 PM is expected to be 92 degrees. The sunny side will be even hotter than that due to direct sun. Unfortunate the weather isn't cooperating.

My 28 year old son visited for dinner the other night, we were talking about Stanford football and he still remembers how hot it was that first season in the new stadium, 18 years later...

Any insight on the kickoff time for homecoming against Wake?

will probably be announced on Oct 14.  Cal also has a home game on Oct 26 (vs Oregon State) so if the selecting that weekend goes like it did for this weekend (Cal is at home vs Miami @7:30pm PT) I would guess we would not be in the +/-7:30pm PT slot.  Their game being two west coast teams probably makes it more attractive for the late start that day for TV, but you never know....

And naturally, the hottest part would have been Walt Harris's seat.... D-:

I know I've said this before, but I met Walt Harris. Singularly unpleasant man. Wasn't unhappy to see him go.

RE: 12:30 kickoff, VaTech -6.5 - pefloresjr - 10-03-2024

I know at Saturday's game they are honoring Toby Gerhart and and the 2009 & 2010 bowl teams.  I assume they are on the field before or during the game.  There is also supposed to be a meet and greet with 2024 Olympians.  Does anybody know when and where that is and who will be there?

Cheers,
Pete F.
