FB -- Other Games Week 8 - martyup - 10-19-2024
Last night BYU beat OKST in a thriller. This was a seesaw battle that came down to OKST trailing by 3 with the ball at mid-field at the 2 minute timeout. OKST drove down and scored with just over a minute left, going up by 4, 35-31. BYU had 2 timeouts remaining. They masterfully drove down the field, having to convert a long 4th down, and scored to win 38-35. BYU is now 7-0.

South Carolina is up 21-0 over Oklahoma at the end of the first Q. What happened to the Sooners?

UCLA got a win over Rutgers. It wasn't clear to me they would win any more games this year. At least they got one more.

There’s also the old school transfer portal. Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma to USC. Ironically it seems to have been a loss for all parties; Oklahoma basically went to a playoff/NY6 every year under Riley until his last. Venebles has a 20-13 record since then, including a 6-7 record in 2022. Riley is 22-11 at USC, including an 8-5 record in Caleb Williams’ last year and a 3-3 record (1-3 in the B1G) this year without Williams.

Did Cal suffer a Gameday curse? Since College GameDay came to the Berkeley campus two weeks ago, they have lost three times by a total of 4 points, including giving up the go ahead touchdown to Miami with less than 30 seconds to go, missing a 40 yard field goal that would have given them the win against Pitt with under 2 minutes to go, and giving up 14 unanswered points to NC State in the fourth quarter to choke a 13 point lead and then missing a 28 yard field goal for the lead with under 2 minutes to go today.
Cal is now 0-4 in the ACC (3-4 overall) and tied with UNC for last place in the standings. They should be favored against Wake and Stanford, but despite looking like a lock to make a Bowl game 4 games ago, they might not get their sixth win.

Stanford is tied for 13th in the new ACC.
USC and UCLA are tied for 16th in the new Big Ten, ahead of winless Purdue.
