Side note - When it comes time for NCAA basketball brackets my wife chooses each game solely by ranking opposing mascots for "scariness". As a good protestant, she happens to think Blue Devils and Demonic Deacons are particularly scary so this method of picking a bracket works out for her about half the time.

And yes I feel the sharp pain of balancing on a knife's edge.
My own perception as a Stanford football fan, is having only a smidge of hope, a faint smattering of good expectations,
and using bucketloads of sarcasm and sniping only as a self-preservation action to be able to ward off a breakdown into uncontrollable sobbing.

I had Forest vs. Trees - low hanging fruit so I didn't expect a "Lefty Award".

I went with the "Hope vs Despair" theme this week since, first of all, it made me laugh and secondly acted as a mirror showing the current state of Stanford fandom.
