Age 89. Good guy. 10-3-1 vs. Stanford.

That's funny! I think people forget how much USC hated us in the McKay and Robinson 1 eras. The quotes from those days are hilarious and memorable. We didn't think Robinson was such a good guy back then and McKay's hatred of Ralston and us was fully reciprocated.

I don't think there was the Stanford hatred toward Robinson that there was toward McKay.
Robinson grew up in the Bay Area and when U$C would come up to Stanford to play he supposedly thought nothing of wandering through the pregame tailgaters and chatting with people he knew. The article I saw this in said McKay wouldn't have done that without a bodyguard.

It would have required many more than just one.

One of the great karmic events was McKay having an o for the season with the Bucs. Beautiful it was.

Was that the year when asked after a game what he thought of his team's execution? His response? "I'd be for it."
I will give him credit for having some pretty good one liners.

I do have to give him some credit though. One of the most non-coachspeak answers ever given (and funny to boot). When asked by a reporter to "comment on his teams execution" McKay responded "I would be in favor of that". Classic we all remember.

Another good one that demonstrated his love for Stanford was when his son and Pat Haden (teammates and both highly recruited football stars) used to tease him by telling him they were leaning toward going to Stanford. His response was "If it comes down to Stanford and the University of China, we'll see you in Beijing." When asked about his chances of landing John McKay Jr he would say, "Pretty good. I'm sleeping with his mother."

How about…
In response to a question about why he had OJ Simpson carry the ball so often in a game, he said, “It’s not heavy and he doesn’t belong to a union.”
