Bruce Pearl - JJJ - 03-04-2025

I still remember him wearing his light gray suit and red tie, waving a towel around his head trying to get everyone fired up in Maples in the ‘80s.

Bruce Pearl at Auburn.

And out in White Plaza at noon getting students to buy season passes.

He sure can coach basketball and win. But he's a pretty lousy person.

Also he divorced his wife of 25 years after being seen regularly in the company of attractive Tennessee undergrads.

I'd never seen his picture before, had no idea what he looked like. Good thing he's rich...

Did he have issues at Stanford? With Montgomery? He was just a kid then, relatively speaking.

For a LOL moment, check out Bruce Pearl’s wiki page - this has to be in the running for the most sanitized wiki sports coach bio of all time.

Bruce came to Stanford along with Tom Davis. No overlap with Montgomery. Bruce was a year out of BC where he did not play basketball. He was the BC Eagle mascot.

But he was eager and brash and very ambitious and convinced Davis to hire him as an assistant coach to help build a winning team and culture at Stanford. He remained with Davis as an assistant when Davis moved to Iowa.

Bruce's time at Stanford is probably best remembered for his cheerleading. He established the 6th Man Club. If you talk to players from that era (1982-86), Bruce did not do much in the way of instruction. He tried, but he didn't have much knowledge then.

Wow, didn’t know he was the BC Eagle mascot, but it makes total sense. He was definitely a “cheerleader” as my classmates on the team said at the time.
