Allegations Re: Men's Water Polo Coach - triangle2 - 03-31-2025

Is it my imagination, or has this just been a bleep storm of allegations against Stanford coaches in the last few years?
This one is a little close to home for me.

Who hired this dude? Oh right, it was Bernie.

Players fear retaliation from Men's Water Polo Coach

Ouch. That sounds really bad.

Moreover, getting a bad reputation could hurt recruiting for years.

This guy Flacks? His experience: HS water polo coach. Period. OK, so it was "Harvard-Westlake" (oooooh!)  Looks like another Bernie head-slapper. What's he doing these days?

What a S show. Fire him now. No wonder Muir quit. I remember when he was hired and the recommendations from Harvard Westlake people
I was in the Army and in training for 28 weeks never abused not even talked down to (don’t believe movies) but it’s happening at Stanford. For shame

Sidenote: What is it with Harvard-Westlake and water polo these days?

UCLA men’s water polo recruit admits to aggravated sexual battery

A water polo player on Ross Sinclair’s Newport Harbor High School varsity team, continues to compete and offer mentorship, despite being an admitted sex offender and operating under a no-contact order.

Is the person named still a minor?  Then I suggest his name be removed from here.

that sounds quite serious.

Quite an institutional failure on several levels: the school, the NGB, the courts, and perhaps even SafeSport for not stepping in and making sure approprate consequences were meted out.

From my reading of the article (all the info I have) he was cleared of any wrongdoing from the initial allegations. And now the parents of those who undoubtedly made those initial allegations are making further allegations – that he’s retaliating. Do we just assume that’s true?  Based  on what.

These are usually unfair fights when it pertains to the media. It’s never really a story when the coach is cleared of wrongdoing.

RE: Allegations Re: Men's Water Polo Coach - M T - 04-04-2025

You said “he was cleared” but the article only stated that the investigation did not substantiate the claims.

Quote:A school spokesperson said that Flacks received an outcome letter at the conclusion of the investigation, which “did not substantiate the claims that were raised, and the university will continue to follow established processes to review any new claims.”

But I agree that the new claims should not be assumed to be true until investigated

I noticed that Flacks has been cleared by the University in the second investigation.
The Stanford Daily article indicates that at least some players remain unhappy.
("cleared" is a term used in the article, but it appears the committee "found no substantiated evidence")
