Ex-Stanford coach Troy Taylor takes issue with investigation -
82lsju - 04-16-2025
Quote:"Former Stanford football coach Troy Taylor released a statement about his firing Wednesday, taking issue with the findings of two separate workplace investigations conducted during his two years as head coach.
Taylor said he was not fired for cause and called coverage of the firing "unfair." In a statement posted on X by Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, Taylor acknowledged that both investigations were launched after complaints were made about his workplace behavior.
Taylor did not acknowledge any wrongdoing in his statement, although he said he had not obtained the text of the two investigation reports in which multiple complainants were quoted."

It therefore is almost certain Stanford is/will be paying him the rest of his contract. Unfortunate, because that is undoubtedly a considerable amount of money. The failure to fire him immediately after the second investigation probably created enough cause for TT to sue if Stanford tried to fire him for cause. Stanford probably decided the downside risk of a lawsuit outweighed the cost of a "buyout".

I haven't followed this closely enough to have an opinion about Taylor's conduct. The thing that sticks out to me is it seemed like Stanford was going to retain him as head coach until the investigation went public. If that's true, there needs to be some more changes.

Nice to see this run to ground. I agree. If Stanford didn't fire him for cause when they had cause and waited until it went public, the cost to avoid paying Taylor at least some form of settlement would have been significant, so might as well pay him the buyout and tell him to pound sand. Firing after public blowback wasn't a good look, and could also be considered unfair to Taylor.
I'm sure he'll find someplace where they will tolerate a jerk at whatever level his true talent finds. Seems like high school, honestly.

The Provost was also replaced when the "old" president left, but she was "around" when the Taylor infractions occurred. I don't know how things work at Stanford today, but "back in the day" the Provost would handle issues like this. Obviously the president would probably be consulted, but normally try to remain above the fray.

I mean, what else was he going to say? He gets his money, he'll do fine elsewhere if he's as upstanding as he says he is.

Does he get the money if he takes another job?

Yep. That's the way the balance of power works in an investigation, buddy. It's not meant to be fair. Unless you sit down with the media and give a lengthy defense of your indefensible actions, the coverage will always be "unfair." Like when a manager harasses employees.

Depends on the contract. There could be an offset if he finds related work. There may also be a payment schedule.
For example, I think Frank Reich will be paid more by the Carolina Panthers next year than by Stanford.
