BC fans should appreciate the evening kickoff. They get to avoid a day game in September in Stanford Stadium (aka, the Big Wok).

True, but I think the vast majority of BC fans watching the game will not be inside Stanford Stadium and will be situated well to the east of the Pacific time zone. Meanwhile, the players will be competing from 10:30 pm to 2 am body-clock time.

In my view, the best kickoff time for Stanford games in September/October is around 5:00 or 5:30 pm. That gives you lots of good tailgating time. It's not too hot in the stadium during the game. And the end of the game is not too late for kids, old people, and people who have long drives to get home.
This year, we have only 3 home games in September/October. Two of them have kickoffs at 7:30 (the third kickoff time is still to be determined). That's too late to be ideal, IMO. But it's better than an early afternoon kickoff in the heat.
It also doesn't sound ideal to sit in the tropical sun in the middle of the afternoon for 3-4 hours in Honolulu. But I'm willing to give it a shot!

Since I don't attend Stanford home games in person, I am more interested in excessive advantages for the home or road team. I oppose 9 am PT away games for Stanford on the East Coast *and* 7:30 pm PT home games for Stanford for East Coast opponents. So I have no objection if the SJSU game kicks off at 7:30 pm.
On the other hand, I don't have data to back up my assertion, just anecdotes and assumptions. Anecdotes: Decent to very good Stanford teams lost at Wake Forest in 2009 and at Northwestern in 2015 (both 9 am PT kickoffs). Assumption: I can't think of a bad Stanford team beating a visiting East Coast team in a night game because we've played very few home games vs East Coast teams until last year (the Louisville game kicked off in the early afernoon). But the disadvantage to the East Coast team makes sense to me.

I think there is adequate data out there, particularly using NFL MNF results where there is a lot more parity than in college football, to show there is a body clock advantage for a CA time hosting an east coast team for a 7:30 PM kickoff, similar to CA teams playing at 9 AM PT. We did play Wake Forest at home back in 2010 with an 8 PM local kickoff and absolutely demolished them. Probably would have happened regardless of kickoff time, but perhaps the late kick added to the final margin.

As near as I can tell, the sun will be quite visible both in the Bay Area as well as (even more so) in Hawaii. As you no doubt know, kickoff times are not determined based on the best time for fans attending the game or to give the home team an advantage or even to benefit fans who want to watch on TV. It is all a ploy to maximize the amount of inventory throughout the day so as to sell as many ads as possible.

The people who bought the adds have to pay whether there is anybody watching or not. I am waiting for the starting times at midnight to capture the insomniac population. It is a demographic that is not yet optimally "reached" with advertising. Why surrender the early morning market to the competition?
