Nate Herbig '20 retires from the NFL - fullmetal - 07-30-2025
The Commanders placed him on the reserve/retired list Tuesday morning after signing him on a one-year deal this offseason. Herbig was drafted by the Eagles and has played for the Eagles, Jets, and Steelers. He's also had an injury history, most recently sitting out the '24 season with a torn rotator cuff.

This is correct, but not complete. Herbig earned Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention both years he was eligible. That suggests that he took his classes seriously and did well enough academically that he would be in a position to return to Stanford and graduate if he wanted to do so. Unless I'm unaware of something negative about Herbig, I hope he does return, both for his own sake and because that would be a good look for Stanford.

I haven't seen that to be a strict rule. Writers often refer to university undergrads by their (social) class year in this way.

Haven't seen Tiger woods ('98) or John McEnroe ('81) referred to as such, but maybe I haven't looked hard enough.
