The sweetest, most satisfying arse-kicking I have ever seen Stanford pull-off in my 66 years  as a CardinalManiac. The top of the thermometer. To have been there in person, on the sunnyside, on the 35 yard-line, put the the whole shebang over the frickin' moon.

I'd sub the Luck triple OT win over SC in 2011 for the ND game. Especially coming the next time Stanford visited the coliseum after double nickels in 2009, which of course was the visit after the greatest upset ever. Hell of a run.

45-16 Rose Bowl victory over Iowa. Stanford was ranked #6, Iowa ranked #5.

Agreed with your top three, hands down. I'd probably replace the VT Orange Bowl with Tuan van Le blocking Robbie Keen's field goal attempt from the 3 yard line. Keen, who was 17 of 19 in FGs and 23/23 in PATs prior to that kick and called "the Cadillac of kickers in college football" by Bear Coach Bruce Snyder. I had the only Stanford shirt on in a sea of Cal fans in the sixth row in that end zone. Coach Taylor was Cal's QB that day. Cal finished 5-5-1, their best record in five years, Stanford finished 3-6-2...and there were 75,662 fans at Mausoleum Stadium that day. It didn't fully make up for the Screw of '82 (that came two years later), but I really, really enjoyed it.

Then, Stanford defeating #1 Notre Dame. ND was 3-0, Cardinal was 1-3. Vardell scored four TDs, Ed McCaffrey caught six passes for 111 yards, Vardell scored with 36 seconds left. Athlon rates it the second worst upset in Notre Dame's history.

I've got a game to substitute for one of the above:
2013 Stanford vs. Oregon.  IMHO, the most consequential game in Stanford Stadium 2.0.  It featured the #3 Ducks vs. #5 Stanford.  The game was on a Thursday night in November, so there were no other games on TV.  And who was watching this game intently?  Fans in Columbus, Tuscaloosa, South Bend, Ann Arbor ...
The vaunted point-a-minute Oregon offense was shut out for 3+ quarters.  They did score 3 TDs, but two needed a recovered on-side kick and a blocked FG return.  Reece Davis ended the telecast with "At this bastion of academia, for one night, Stanford is the center of the college football world!"
Here's one anecdote I'll add:  My wife and I have a small cottage in Mendocino.  The couple who rented next door had purchased tickets for this game much earlier that summer.  They were regular folks - she a waitress, he a commercial fisherman, and neither had links to either Stanford or Oregon.  It's not a quick drive from Mendocino to Palo Alto.  They knew this game was a big deal.  Boy, those were the days.

I do miss the P12 Network and its endless reruns of past games. We could enjoy some great games from the Modern Golden Age of Stanford Football. Including this one, Stanford 56 USC 48 (3OT).
