That did not come close to happening at Stanford yesterday. The reported attendance was ony 16,540. The report may have been closer to the actual than it has been in some time. Not a large contingent for Pitt but many of their fans that were there were sitting in prime Stanford sections.

Looked to me like less than 10k actually attended.

I'd agree, we sit in 134 and the shady side was not very full, both endzones were pretty much empty. Our section was definitely not anywhere close to full
The AD was giving away lots of tix. Season ticket buyers could get two free ones for this game as could Block S members, I assume these count as part of the announced gate (even if they were not used, I got two and could not find anyone to use them).
Lot 2 continues to be sparsely attended by tailgaters.
I'm told the secondary market for Lot 2 parking passes looks good for Big Game and vs ND so maybe Lot 2 fills up more for those games, but if it does it will likely be with the enemy....

It's highly unlikely any such legal action would happen in Hawai'i, IMHO - heck, barely anyone's even batted/batting an eye about it back there. There's just a whole different mentality around these types of incidents there when it comes to sporting events. Just a week ago, I'd read a thread on social media where posters jokingly, almost fondly, referred to sports "traditions" such as locals throwing rocks at buses carrying opposing high school FB teams and fans in certain rural areas. The majority of posters just shrugged off such incidents and almost took it as a badge of honor for having gotten through them without major injuries or damages. Not saying it's right - there's just a different atttude toward and tolerance of certain levels of confrontational situations in sports-related environments there - basically, no harm, no pilikia (trouble).
That said, interestingly, the above discussion came about as a sidebar to another sports-related incident in which an AD staffer at an Oahu high school was physically assaulted by a belligerant fan after a HS basketball game. The assailant - a state corrections officer who is related to a well-known and beloved former UH FB player - was much larger than the victim and knocked her unconcious. The victim filed for a TRO and in an unprecedented decision, the judge further
issued an order banning both the assailant and his wife from all Hawaii State Department of Education property for life. In this case, public condemnation of the assailant was widespread and overwhelmingly and vocally supportive of the AD employee. BTW, as an update, the assailant's wife was just arrested Tuesday for making threats against the official - this, even after the judge's ruling as well.

In 2020, Emmanuel Duron was thrown out of a Texas HS football game for unsportsmanlike conduct and roughing the passer. He blindside tackled the referee, who was concussed. His team, which would have made the playoffs, were deemed ineligible. (yes, even in Texas). Although, three days later Duron was wrestling in a state tournament. He received a one year sentence, community supervision. Later had drug offences (cocaine, 2022). Then attacked and bit his former girlfriend. No jail time for either assault. Arrested with a DUI in October of this year...perhaps how he does jail time.

Odd, the story wasn't paywalled for me.
So TCU was without their starting QB. USC's defensive co-ordinator was replaced just before the game, and also:
"Over a dozen starters or would-be starters sat out. Three of the Trojans’ starting offensive linemen didn’t dress. Both of their top receivers and top tight end were in street clothes, having declared for the NFL draft. Twenty-five players listed in USC’s two-deep Tuesday were either freshmen or redshirt freshmen."
Bowl games have turned into NFL pre-season games.

Or bowl games are now what happen before freshman were eligible to play on the varsity up until the early 70's, and there was a freshman team and they played only about 4 games a year against other freshman teams (same for basketball and baseball).

Not exactly, because the contingent going to the NFL didn't play :-). Seriously, these bowl games that "feature" teams having little resemblance to those that played in the regular season will just go away. The public will simply have no interest in these games. TV ratings are still strong, but that is IMO a holdover to when these games were considered "important" by the players. Since that is no longer the case, the fans will undoubtedly follow suit.

More like a pre-season game for the next college season, perhaps. But missing next year's freshmen, so not even that.
