MBB: Stanford vs. Saint Louis 4PM, CBS Sports Network - skip75 - 11-28-2025

This is a thread that will lag far behind women's soccer, women's BB, Tavita Pritchard and maybe more - but hey, somebody's gotta do it.

According to every ranking system there is, this will be the most challenging game of the young season for Stanford.  Saint Louis is favored by 2-1/2 points.

Some of you may have watched the Billikens (?!?) in their 1-pt win over Santa Clara (sorry, Mick) and know more about them that I do. The main thing that I have been able to find out is that they seem to be led by #21 Robbie Avila (6'10 240 Sr C) who is their co-leader in scoring with 12.8 ppg.  they have very balanced scoring with 7 players at 8.5 ppg or higher.  Avila also leads the team in assists with 3.0/game and shoots 54% from the field and 56% from 3.

There were lots of good things in the game yesterday, but I'm a bit concerned that we relied essentially on a 6-man rotation.  Maybe that was needed to get the win, but I'm hopeful that they'll be able to trust in more depth as the season wears on.

Appreciate your previews!  Always read them!
And I take comfort in believing it's always the quality of the posters, not the quantity.... LOL

Painful offense so far.  We really don't have any passing to speak of, so we just get whatever Okorie can do while everyone else is trying extremely difficult drives into the defense.

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Saint Louis 4PM, CBS Sports Network - JJJ - 11-28-2025

When Okorie isn’t on the floor, we seem…offensively challenged. Someone else needs to step up and fill the void.

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Saint Louis 4PM, CBS Sports Network - PVTree - 11-28-2025

Okorie needs some help, he can't do it all by himself every night.

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Saint Louis 4PM, CBS Sports Network - rogpodge - 11-28-2025

At least one NCAAB power rating site had St. Louis rated 6 points better than Stanford on a neutral floor

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Saint Louis 4PM, CBS Sports Network - skip75 - 11-28-2025

Stanford jumped out to a 10-6 lead 4 minutes into the game, but Saint Louis flipped that to 28-13 over the next 8 minutes.  Looked like they might get it to an 8 point deficit at the half, but a buzzer beater 3 made it 47-36.  Stanford getting beat badly in the paint, on the fast break, and on the boards.

5pt game, 48-53 in 2H in what looks like very undisciplined play by both teams, running up and down the floor with wild shots and refs letting them play on.

Game tied at 60 with 7 minutes to play.

RE: MBB: Stanford vs. Saint Louis 4PM, CBS Sports Network - skip75 - 11-28-2025

Tied at 60 with 7 minutes to go!  Not convinced about the depth of talent on this team, but they do have some grit.

Wow, what an amazing defensive performance in the second half! Tied at 60.

Will Okorie and Okpara run ou of gas?

I wonder what the odds of losing were in the last 5 seconds? 99.99%? One hell of a win
