Unless Stanford plays way better than they did on Tuesday vs. UND, this one will get ugly early. Louisville is 11-2 and #13 according to the AP Coaches poll. They were picked to finish 2nd (behind Duke) in the pre-season ACC poll. They lead the ACC with 91.5ppg and 12.7 3s/game. Their losses were at Arkansas & Tennessee. They got off to a 10-0 lead on Tuesday at Cal, and cruised to a 90-70 win. The Cardinals (NOT Cardinal) are favored by 8.5, the over/under is 157.5, making the implied score 83-74.5. Anyone who was at the UND game on Tuesday might be tempted to bet on Louisville and/or the under.
According to their website, the Cardinals have one of the oldest teams in the country with an average age of 21.3. According to 247 Sports, they have the #3 transfer class in the country. Their roster consists of 4 freshmen, 2 sophomores (1 transfer), 2 juniors (1 with 4 years of experience in the German Basketball Bundesliga), 6 seniors (3 new transfers, all transfers at some point), and 2 "6th years" (both transfers - 1 new this season).
Louisville was without 2 players in their win at Cal: Kasean Pryor (#7 6'10/230 6th F); and Mikel Brown Jr. (#0 6'5/190 Fr G). Brown was a McDonalds All-American and was selected on the pre-season All-ACC first team. He leads the team with 5.1apg and scores 16.6ppg. Both players are listed as "Questionable" for todays game.
The starting line-up at Cal (all with double-figure scoring averages) was:
#3 Ryan Conwell (6'4/215 Sr G) He is 4-for-4 (4 schools in 4 years - good luck getting that degree!). Leads team with 19.7ppg and leads the ACC with 3.8 3s/game.
#10 Isaac McKneeley (6'4/195 Sr G) Transfer from UVa, he played at Maples last season and led the Cavs with 22 points, including 5 3s. Scores 11.2ppg with 2.9 3s/game.
#13 Sananda Fru (6'11/250 Jr F/C) The former German pro, scores 10.8ppg on 75.7% FGs, leads team with 6.8rpg (45 of his 89 rebounds have been on the offensive end).
#1 J'vonne Hadley (6'7/210 6th G) 2 JCs, 2 years as a starter at Colorado, now a 2nd year starter at Louisville. Scores 10.0ppg.
#14 Adrian Wooley (6'4/200 So G) Scores 10.0ppg. Filled in admirably at Cal for Brown, scoring 21 points.
This will be the first game I've attended this season with Stanford not favored and with me not expecting them to win. I'm hopeful, but not necessarily expecting, that they can make a competitive showing.

Appreciate the well researched previews.
Based on our last game, I've reset expectations much lower for this game.
If we are actually seriously competitive I think it would be a big achievement.
No slight to Coach Smith and the players, just that Louisville is likely in a higher pay grade.
I'm still hopeful we can finish somewhere in middle of ACC by season end.
But the folks at the top, Louisville, Duke, et. al. are likely at another level.

Once again, when Okorie out (due to foul trouble now), our offense just not as sharp.
Guys looking around, wondering what to do, like an Alphonse and Gaston skit.

Uhh... I mighta confused foul trouble for Okpara with Okorie.
Now I'm totally confused, as box score shows Okpara with 2 and Okorie with 0. ?!
Okorie carrying this team on his shoulders.
And considering that includes Giltay, it's quite a load.

What a pleasant surprise victory and fun game at Maples! Biggest win in how many years?! North Carolina last year was awesome but Louisville is higher ranked and better than Carolina was.

This was like the bizarro version of the ND game. Great shooting. Great spacing. Good rebounding. Okorie scoring at will.

Wow, what a win!
I only saw the last four minutes, but during that span Jeremy Dent-Smith was Stanford's MCP (most clutch player).
His steal with just over three minutes left really killed any momentum that Louisville seemed to be generating, and his inbound passes did the job against a desperate defense. Even when he got schooled in the post (against a significantly taller player), he avoided fouling, which would have been pretty easy to do against this set of refs, from what little I saw of the game.
I'm sure Okorie was the hero over 40 minutes, but JDS played really, really well when it mattered most.

What a win. We made our FTs at the end to keep them at arm's length. Gutsy win after going back and forth at the start of the second half.
We need to improve our rebounding and be more consistent with free throw shooting. Our defense was very good given the firepower Louisville has. Our offense looked competent in contrast to the USB game. It was an enjoyable game.
