Women's gymnastics "stick stick" -

This is a cute tradition.
I have never watched a Stanford women's gymnastics meet, but today I randomly tuned into Stanford v. Clemson on ESPN and saw one girl holding a stick -- yes, literally a stick -- with a bow tied to it.
A little Googling told me that the women's gymnastics team has what they call the "stick stick" to celebrate stuck landings during meets.
There are some fun social media posts of team members choosing a new stick before a meet.

This year's women's gymnastics team is really good and a lot of fun to watch. Highly recommend tuning in or going to a meet or two if you haven't been before. The meet vs UCLA on March 7 at Maples will be particularly good. 2024 Olympic floor bronze medalist Ana Barbosu of Stanford will face off against the other 2024 Olympic floor bronze medalist Jordan Chiles of UCLA. Stanford also has 2023 NCAA vault champion Anna Roberts and 2024 olympian Levi Jung Ruivivar among many, many other talented gymnasts on the team.

That will be an interesting meeting: Barbosu and Chiles were the gymnasts involved in the controversy over that bronze medal. Chiles was originally moved from 5th to 3rd after a U.S. inquiry about her routine being underscored on degree of difficulty, but it was later ruled that the U.S. inquiry had not been made within the prescribed 1 minute. So she officially finished fifth, but apparently has not returned the bronze medal she had received. Barbosu was the gymnast who initially finished third, was bumped down when Chiles' score was raised, then officially finished third when Chiles' score was returned to its original fifth position. Does anyone know if Barbosu actually got a bronze medal, too?

I think Bărbosu did receive one after the fact (wikipedia says Aug. 16th). When I heard that Stanford had recruited her, I immediately wondered if she'd ever compete head to head with Chiles in a post-Pac 12 world. And here we are.

It turns out the bronze medal in question is still under dispute.
Quote:Switzerland’s supreme court said on Thursday its judges sent the “highly exceptional circumstances” of the bronze medal awarded in the women’s floor exercise back to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to examine new evidence.
