Well deserved.

I have no qualms with Boozer being player of the year. And player of the year isn't the same thing as MVP. But no player in the ACC--or maybe the entire NCAA--was more valuable than Okorie. I doubt that Stanford even wins 10 games without him. Maybe not even 7.

I hope the NIL folks are ready to drive a dump truck full of money to Okorie's door as soon as the season ends.

This guy is pretty good. So is Cameron Boozer. They now sit atop the all-time ACC freshman scoring averages. These are all in the the 3-ball era. Mark Price had a great freshman year and the ACC used an experimental 3-point shot during that season at 17 feet, 9 inches. It was a key factor in NC State's run to the '83 ACC title, which propelled them to winning it all. As the team improved around him (Price) and the ACC discontinued the 3-point line his scoring averages fell to 15.6, 16.7 (ACC player of the year), and 17.4 (Naismith Award Finalist) ppg. Interesting that the list is exclusively schools from North Carolina and two schools I attended that are not in North Carolina.

His freshman average, which doesn't "count"? A staggering 35.6 ppg!

Okorie has scored 671 points this season, 8th most in Stanford history for a single season. And of course he is not done yet. He would be higher if he had not missed two games early in the season (San Jose St and UT Arlington).

Thanks for sharing that clip - that drive up to the Newell Classic was the BEST trip to Oakland EVER. Had to chuckle as the last camera shot with Montgomery was of him shaking hands with (cue up that Frau Blücher background scream) then-Dook-asst, Dawkins. Taken together with CJ's quote about playing eastern teams and one has to admit we've been on a long strange, trip indeed.....

I somewhat agree. The ending was insanely exciting, and being there for it made it easy to think that I needn't bother attending more events in person since then because there's no way the experience could be any better.

I followed that up a year later, after the world had changed, with another trip to Oakland to see A's fans with their brooms in hand watch their team lose the first of three straight on their way out of the playoffs. Mussina pitched a gem, Posada homered, Jeter flipped the ball, Giambi didn't slide, and the Yankees won 1-0. If you haven't seen a 1-0 playoff win, I highly recommend it. Attending that baseball game had a similar effect. How could any other game in person live up to that one?
