PE and the Big12 - cardcrimson - 04-29-2026

Redbird Capital has an agreement to fund the Big12 and to offer schools a line of credit up to $30 million (at just under 10%). Redbird has a stake in Paramount, who owns CBS. Just so happens the Big12 TV contracts are up in a couple of years. . . .

What could possibly go wrong?

Ah, yes, the circular economy.  I agree, this sounds like it is going to be a disaster.  Especially when taxpayers wind up having to foot a bailout for the (public) schools who find themselves loaded with debt and unable to generate enough revenue to pay it back.  Is the idea that CBS Redbird is going to pressure endebted schools to accept deals with CBS?  Or will the circular economy mean that CBS will pay inflated prices to the schools just so they can service their debt?

Speaking of which, how is it going with Cal and its stadium debt?
