RE: 2026 Stanford Football Personnel -
Langdude - 08-29-2026
Notes on the 2026 Stanford Football Personnel grid:
1. The grid lists players by class year and not eligibility. Freshman players generally do not play enough to use a year of eligibility, but if a player has done so, it is denoted.
2. To the 2025 Stanford Football Personnel grid, 32 players were added.
a. The 26-person incoming “CardClass26,” consisting of 26 scholarship players and zero preferred walk-ons (PWOs)
b. Six transfer student-athletes; school year denoted is for 2026 season
==> 6th year QB Davis Warren (Michigan)
==> Sophomore QB Luke Levitt (Pomona-Pitzer)
==> Senior WR Nico Brown (Yale)
==> Senior WR Carter Shaw (UCLA)
==> 5th year C Aidan Kilstrom (Harvard)
==> Senior CB Leroy Bryant (Washington)
Note: None of the transfers have burned their redshirts. Davis Warren famously began as a walk-on at Michigan. Nico Brown is sophomore walk-on WR Marcus Brown’s older brother. Carter Shaw is David Shaw’s son.
3. From the 2025 Stanford Football Personnel grid, 28 players were removed; those who regularly started at some point in their career marked in bold.
a. Ten players declaring for the NFL draft; year denoted is for 2025 season
==> Senior TE
Sam Roush (3rd round, Bears)
==> Senior WR
CJ Williams (6th round, Jaguars)
==> Senior CB
Collin Wright (UDFA, Texans)
==> 7th year DE
Clay Patterson (UDFA, Bears)
==> 5th year ILB Ese Dubre (UDFA, Panthers)
==> 5th year CB Jordan Washington (UDFA, Seahawks)
==> 6th year QB
Ben Gulbranson (undrafted, unsigned)
==> 5th year DE Zach Buckey (undrafted, unsigned)
==> 5th year ILB
Hunter Barth (undrafted, unsigned)
==> 5th year TE Brendan Doyle (undrafted, unsigned)
Note: All players had exhausted their eligibility except for Collin Wright, who had one remaining year; Ese Dubre and Zach Buckey would have been able to apply for a sixth year. WR Jayson Raines, who transferred from Stanford after the 2024 season to play a fifth year at Northern Arizona, and OG Austin Uke, who transferred from Stanford after the 2024 season to play a fifth year at Miami (OH), both showcased at the Stanford pro day with the above. Both also went undrafted and unsigned.
b. Nine players who transferred or are seeking a transfer; year denoted is for 2025 season
==> Sophomore QB
Elijah Brown (Washington)
==> Junior QB Miles Jackson (none)
==> Sophomore RB
Cole Tabb (Cincinnati)
==> Junior WR Miles Libman (New Mexico State; walk-on at Stanford)
==> Senior WR Jason Thompson (Marist; walk-on at Stanford)
==> Freshman OT
Emeka Ugorji (Florida)
==> Freshman OG
Zak Yamauchi (BYU)
==> 5th Year OG
Jack Leyrer (Auburn)
==> Junior S
Ché Ojarikre (Duke)
Note: Two players entered the transfer portal, but removed their names: Charlie Mirer, who remains on the team as a 5th-year walk-on, and OLB Wifredo Aybar, who would have been a 6th-year, but decided to retire. In addition, TE CJ Hawkins, who played for Stanford in 2022 and 2023 but was then cut from the football team by then-head-coach Troy Taylor, has now apparently graduated and is transferring to play at Rhode Island as a graduate student.
c. Three players who exhausted their eligibility; school year denoted is for 2025 season
==> 6th year WR
Bryce Farrell
==> 5th year DE
Anthony Franklin
==> 5th year S
Mitch Leigber
d. Six players graduating or retiring with eligibility remaining; school year denoted is for 2025 season
==> 5th year TE Griffin Waiss (walk-on)
==> Junior DE RJ Gaskins (walk-on)
==> Sophomore OLB Maxwell Richardson
==> 5th year OLB
Wilfredo Aybar
==> Junior ILB Miles McGee (walk-on)
==> Senior ILB Anson Pulsipher (walk-on)
4. Other Changes
a. There was one position switch.
==> Junior Ziron Brown C
à OG
Note: The official roster erroneously has senior Tre Williams at OLB and th5-year Zach Rowell at DE. They remain at ILB and DT, respectively. (H/T SMC)
b. Four players regained their previously burnt redshirt because they were not able to play more than four games in 2025.
==> Junior RB Chris Davis
==> Senior OG Simione Pale
==> Senior CB Aaron Morris
==> Junior S Jalen’Dai Sumlin
c. Five walk-ons are now on scholarship. (H/T SMC)
==> 6th-year K Emmet Kenney
==> 5th-year LS Peyton Warford
==> 5th-year QB Charlie Mirer
==> Junior S Charlie Eckhardt
==> Junior WR Marcus Brown
5. Other Notes
a. OL Ammon Alexander was announced on Signing Day as part of #CardClass26, but is on a two-year LDS mission and will join the team for the 2028 season.
b. Incoming transfer senior OL Dara Adeyemi from Bucknell was announced on Signing Day, but has since medically retired.
6. Roster Positioning Errata
a. The official roster does not designate specific positions for most offensive and defensive linemen, and for some defensive backs. I have listed OL and DL players at specific positions in the grid based on either recruiting profiles or past games to help us discern depth, pipeline, and possible starting combinations, though the grid designation of specific players will likely change as positions are determined by the coaching staff.
b. Devery Hamilton Rule: When an established player’s position is ambiguous (e.g., “defensive back” or “athlete”), I have listed them in the grid according to the position where they appear the most.
c. Rules now restrict rosters to 105 players, scholarship or not. However, all walk-ons prior to this season were grandfathered in to the new limit, and therefore the nine current walk-ons do not count against the 105-player boundary.
As always, I appreciate any corrections or input on positioning, starters, injured status, spelling, or scholarship/walk-on status.

Dumb question, does it make sense to draw a distinction between scholarships and walk ons any more? I thought it was just “roster spots”.

Not a dumb question! I only list them because it is interesting to me to see non-scholarship kids succeed. It doesn't matter except to the extent that it shows the percentage of available roster spots are scholarship athletes...

BC
It does, because all walk-ons prior to this year are grandfathered in and don't count towards the 105 "roster spots."
To that end, the following walk-ons (who would have been grandfathered in) were put on scholarship:
- Aidan Flintoft
- Peyton Warford
- Charlie Eckhardt
- Charlie Mirer
- Marcus Brown (I think)

I guess this will be the starting line tonight. (There is no posted depth chart.) Man, there will just be no depth. That's four starters and a key backup out.

With the new 5 in 5 rule, does "true" freshman have any meaning? There is no such thing as a redshirt freshman anymore.

Just read up on rule. You’re right. With five years of eligibility, redshirting is meaningless for current freshmen. ("Four in five" rule is still active for sophomores on up.)
