Yawn. i have pretty much all but lost interest in college football, largely because I don’t gamble. I don’t do fantasy, prediction markets, or any of that stuff, and, sadly, the product on the field is no longer that interesting. Yes, a record number of people are following it, but I suspect it is because a record number of people are laying money on whether Miami will manage to hang 70 points on the poor sap they played this week because otherwise there was no reason to tune into that game.

BC, don’t know you personally but love your posts and contributions.
I fully respect the fact that you have lost interest. I myself have struggled with it, but have convinced myself that the experiment Andrew Luck is running is worth my continued interest. I hope they succeed and can somehow prove that they have found that vanishing path that makes big time college athletics not fully incompatible with Stanford’s mission. My Stanford experience was enhanced by attending school with many of these amazing athletes that were striving for both athletic and academic excellence. I may very well be deluding myself into thinking that there’s any possibility of that still at play, but it is that idea that keeps me coming back, not any winning odds or betting lines.
Not in my life have I ever bet a single dollar in Stanford football, yet I’ll be excited to attend this Saturday’s game and may be even dumb enough to allow myself some cautious optimism.
